What types of mileage earning activity count towards Aeroplan status?

The following types of activity count towards Aeroplan status: using the Aeroplan eStore, flying on a Star Alliance airline and crediting the miles towards Aeroplan, and spending on an Aeroplan co-branded credit card.

Credit card welcome bonuses and points transferred from other loyalty programs do not count.

The Aeroplan status qualification period is between January 1 and December 31 of the same year. After qualifying for status, the benefits start immediately and last through the end of the following year.

Types of mileage earning activity which are eligible for Aeroplan status include:

Using the Aeroplan eStore earns 1 mile per dollar spent (excluding retailer-specific bonuses), unless you have Aeroplan status: Silver and Black members earn 2 miles per dollar spent, while Diamond members can earn 3 miles per dollar spent.

To use the Aeroplan e-store, simply head over to aeroplan.com/estore and log in. Clicking an online store will direct you to the retailer’s website to complete your purchase. Make sure to have your Adblock turned off and/or use a different browser, as the eStore works by tracking the cookies on your browser.

Activities that do not earn status-eligible miles include:

  • Credit card welcome bonuses

  • Transfers from other points programs, like Amex MR or Marriott Bonvoy

  • Transfers from other Aeroplan accounts

  • Purchased miles

  • Bonus miles as a result of Aeroplan status or as a benefit of Air Canada Altitude

  • Miles that were reinstated

Note that credit card welcome bonuses do not count towards earning Aeroplan status; however, regular spend on an Aeroplan-branded credit card does.
