How Aeroplan Award Pricing Works
Aeroplan uses a distance-based award chart with four geographic zones: North America, Atlantic (Europe, Africa, Middle East & Indian Subcontinent), Pacific (Asia & Oceania), and South America. The points required for a flight depend on the great-circle distance between your origin and destination, which cabin class you fly, and which airline operates the flight.
There are two pricing tiers. Fixed pricing applies when flying on most Star Alliance and other partner airlines – the cost is fixed and does not change with demand. Dynamic pricing applies when flying on Air Canada and a handful of select partners – there is a published minimum, but the actual cost can be higher depending on demand and availability.
Select Partners (Dynamic Pricing)
The following airlines trigger dynamic “starting at” pricing when included on any segment of your itinerary:
- Air Canada
- Air Canada Rouge
- Air Canada Express
- United Airlines
- Emirates
- Flydubai
- Etihad Airways
- Canadian North
- Calm Air
- Bearskin Airlines
- Provincial Airlines (PAL)
All other partner airlines use fixed pricing.
Special Rules
- Stopovers: Add 5,000 points for a stopover (up to 45 days) at an intermediate point outside of Canada and the US.
- Multi-segment: Total distance is summed across all flight segments, then the combined distance is used to determine the price band.
- Mixed cabin: If any segment is in a higher cabin class, the entire itinerary is priced at that cabin’s rate.
- Partner mixing: If any segment on your itinerary uses Air Canada or a Select Partner, dynamic pricing applies to the entire booking.
