Perks of Aeroplan status include discounts on Market Fare rewards, cheaper change and cancellation fees, call centre priority for Diamond members, and the occasional status match offer such as the recent WestJet Rewards status match.
Aeroplan status consists of three separate tiers, which are known as Silver, Black, and Diamond. To qualify for each tier, the respective qualifying requirements are to earn 25,000, 50,000, and 100,000 status-eligible Aeroplan miles in a calendar year.
One of the biggest perks of Aeroplan status takes the form of discounts on Aeroplan Market Fare rewards: Silver, Black, and Diamond members receive 20%, 25%, and 35% off the regular price, respectively.
Another important perk is bonuses on the Aeroplan eStore: Silver and Black members receive 2x the miles, while Diamond members receive 3x the miles – on top of any retailer-specific bonuses already offered.
Additionally, Diamond members have cheaper change fees ($75 per direction) and cancellation fees ($30 for cancelling online and $100 for cancelling over the phone) on Aeroplan bookings. Diamond members also receive call centre priority, although this is less important than a few years ago, as the Aeroplan wait times aren’t too bad anymore.
Occasionally, Aeroplan status members get the opportunity to status-match to other programs, such as the recent WestJet Rewards status match offer targeting Aeroplan Black and Diamond members.
Lastly, Aeroplan has a partnership with Fairmont Hotels, allowing members can receive preferential treatment. Simply log in to Aeroplan to get your Fairmont Promotional code – all tiers of Aeroplan status receive a room upgrade, subject to availability upon check-in, and daily breakfast. Black and Diamond members also receive a $25 hotel credit, while Diamond members receive an additional welcome amenity.
