Which Categories Earn 10x Points?

This list is narrower than the June edition. Seven categories that earned 10x in June are back to 1 point per dollar, including jewelry, luggage, and watches.

Taxes, shipping, and handling fees don’t earn points either, since points are based on the pre-tax sale amount.

How to Earn Points on Amazon Through the eStore

To earn points, you’ll need to start your Amazon session from the Aeroplan eStore rather than heading to amazon.ca directly.

1. Sign in to the Aeroplan eStore with your Aeroplan account
2. Find Amazon and click “Shop and earn”
3. Add your items to your cart and check out in the same browsing session

A few rules matter here. Items that were already in your Amazon cart before you clicked through won’t earn points, and purchases must be completed within 24 hours of being added to your cart.

You’ll also need cookies enabled in your browser. Visiting other websites before checking out, or using coupons that weren’t provided by the eStore, means the purchase won’t earn points.

More Ways to Earn Points at the Aeroplan eStore

While the above promotional earning rates can be a great deal, there are a couple of other ways that can help you boost your balance.

Aeroplan Elite Status

If you have Aeroplan Elite Status, you’ll earn an extra 2 Aeroplan points per dollar spent on all eligible eStore purchases as part of your elite benefits. This means that you can earn a total of up to 12 Aeroplan points per dollar spent on purchases via this promotion.

If you’re signed in with Elite Status, the eStore shows rates that already include your status bonus, which is why you may see 12 points per dollar instead of 10.

Aeroplan Co-Branded Credit Cards

And of course, by paying for your purchase using your Aeroplan co-branded credit card, you’ll earn even more points as a result.

Premium cards like the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card and the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card earn 1.25 points per dollar on Amazon purchases, while core cards like the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card earn 1 point per dollar.

For example, if you pay with the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, you could earn:

• 10x points as a promotional earning rate
• 2x points from Elite Status bonus
• 1.25x points from the base earning rate with a premium co-branded credit card

Total: 13.25 points per dollar spent on eligible purchases.

How Much Can You Earn?

To put that into perspective, say you spend $500 before tax on an Echo device, a Kindle E-reader, or new clothes. With Elite Status and a premium Aeroplan card, you’d earn:

• 5,000 Aeroplan points from the 10x promotional rate
• 1,000 Aeroplan points from the Elite Status bonus
• 625 Aeroplan points from the premium co-branded credit card

That works out to 6,625 Aeroplan points, worth about $133 based on our valuation of 2 cents per point, or a return of over 26%.

Without Elite Status, the same purchase still earns 5,625 points, worth about $113. By comparison, buying those items outside the promotion would earn just 1,125 points with a premium card and no status.

Does This Promotion Count Toward Everyday Status Qualification?

Points earned through the Aeroplan eStore count towards Everyday Status Qualification (EDQ). Aeroplan awards 1 EDQ for every eligible point earned with its partners, including the eStore.

Members who reach 100,000 EDQ in a calendar year qualify for the entry-level Aeroplan 25K status for the rest of that year and all of the following year.

As we covered in our Everyday Status Qualification guide, eligible eStore points include limited-time retailer bonuses of up to 10x, so the full 10x promotional rate counts. Points earned on your Aeroplan co-branded credit card count too.

However, the extra 2 points per dollar that Elite members earn on eStore purchases don’t count, since they’re awarded on the basis of Aeroplan Elite Status.

In the TD example above, 11.25 of the 13.25 points per dollar would count towards EDQ.

Keep in mind that eStore points don’t earn Status Qualifying Credits (SQC), so EDQ is the only status path they can help with.

Eligible transactions are flagged with “EDQ” in your Aeroplan activity. Your EDQ progress tracker only appears on your Aeroplan dashboard if you don’t currently hold status.

Tracking Your eStore Purchases

Lastly, it’s worth noting that eStore points can take six to eight weeks to credit, and the eStore hasn’t historically been 100% accurate in terms of tracking and crediting every purchase.

Therefore, it’s definitely a good idea to keep a record of the points you expect to receive and the date of your eStore purchase, in case you need to follow up on any missing points.
