Air Canada appears to have its sights set on Europe next year with the launch of two new routes from Montreal to Naples, Italy and and Montreal to Porto, Portugal beginning in the spring of 2025.
The announcement comes on the heels of an earlier one by Air Canada, as it will also begin a new non-stop route from Toronto to Prague in June of next year.
Air Canada Launches New Routes from Montreal to Naples and Porto
Air Canada has announced it will introduce two new European routes from Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), linking the city with Naples, Italy, and Porto, Portugal.
Flights to Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) will operate four-times weekly beginning on May 16, 2025, with the following flight times:
- AC882 Montreal (YUL) to Naples (NAP), departing 7pm and arriving 9:30am the next day
- AC883 Naples (NAP) to Montreal (YUL), departing 11:15am and arriving 2:35pm
The eastbound flight from Montreal is blocked at 8 hours 30 minutes, while the westbound flight from Naples is set to run 9 hours 20 minutes.
The route will be serviced by Air Canada’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft offering a three-class configuration with 20 seats in business class, 21 seats in premium economy, and 210 seats in economy.
Air Canada’s international business class – officially known as Signature Class – offers flat bed seating and direct aisle access from each seat, while the economy class features slimline seats.
The new route to Porto Airport (OPO) will also run four-times weekly beginning June 4, 2025, with the following flight times:
- AC928 Montreal (YUL) to Porto (OPO), departing 9:55pm and arriving 9:45am the next day
- AC929 Porto (OPO) to Montreal (YUL), departing 12:15pm and arriving 2:35pm
The eastbound flight from Montreal is blocked at just under seven hours, while the westbound flight from Porto is set to run around seven and a half hours.
Unlike the Montreal-Naples route, the new Porto route will be serviced by Air Canada’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft which offers 16 recliner-style business class seats and 153 standard economy seats.
How to Book Air Canada’s New European Routes
The new Montreal–Porto route covers a non-stop distance of 3,199 miles, and the new Montreal–Naples route measures 4,226 miles, according to Great Circle Mapper.
For Aeroplan redemptions, this places the Porto route in the first distance band on Aeroplan’s “Between North America and Atlantic zones” redemption chart, while the Naples route falls within the second distance band.
Air Canada flights booked with Aeroplan points are subject to dynamic pricing, which means that you can expect to see a range of prices rather than a fixed amount.
The published ranges for the Porto route are as follows, keeping in mind that the business class cabin is sold under Premium Economy fares on transatlantic segments that don’t feature lie-flat seats:
- Economy: 35,000–60,000 Aeroplan points
- Business class: 60,000–160,000 Aeroplan points
Meanwhile, the published ranges for the Naples route are as follows:
- Economy: 40,000–70,000 Aeroplan points
- Premium economy: 60,000–90,000 Aeroplan points
- Business class: 70,000–180,000 Aeroplan points
As expected, a quick glance through availability next spring shows a range of prices.
On some dates, there’s ample award availability to or from Porto at low prices, while on others, it’s within or above the published range.
It’s a similar story to Naples, though it’s worth noting that finding “Saver”-level awards to Italy in the summer months will likely be difficult to come by.
If you’re flexible with your travel plans, be sure to keep an eye out for last-minute award availability, which tends to be your best chance of scoring Air Canada business class around the lower end of the published dynamic ranges.
When it comes to cash prices, some sample round-trip prices for two-week itineraries are as follows:
- To Porto: $1,100 (economy), $3,200 (business class (sold as premium economy))
- To Naples: $1,300–1,500 (economy), $3,200 (premium economy), $6,600 (business class)
When booking an Air Canada flight, it’s always a good idea to use an Aeroplan co-branded credit card to earn bonus points on the Air Canada purchases and to enjoy some travel insurance coverage on both cash and Aeroplan award bookings.
The best card to use is the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card, which earns 3 points per dollar spent on Air Canada purchases.† Alternatively, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, or the American Express Aeroplan Card all earn 2 Aeroplan points per dollar spent on Air Canada purchases.†
