The Flight & Hotel Packages were a great deal in the old days of Marriott Rewards. However, with their new price under Marriott Bonvoy, they’re only worth considering if you're absolutely certain that you want to convert your Marriott Bonvoy points into airline miles and a seven-night hotel stay.
Marriott offers Flight & Hotel Packages (also known as Travel Packages), which offer seven award nights and a chunk of either 50,000 or 100,000 airline miles in the frequent flyer program of your choosing.
In the past, under the old Marriott Rewards program, these packages provided such a good value that they were almost worth purchasing speculatively, since the airline miles you’d be receiving were so valuable.
Under the current structure, however, there are still some savings to be realized, but only if you were already planning to convert your Marriott Bonvoy points into airline miles and you were already planning to redeem a seven-night hotel stay. Speculative purchases (like before, when members would buy the packages simply for the airline miles, with no concrete plans to use the hotel portion) no longer make sense.
The below chart breaks down the savings that are achieved by redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points for a Travel Package. As you can see, Category 1–4 is the best value, in the sense that you’d effectively be paying 90,000 points for seven nights in a Category 1–4 hotel. As you move upwards, the value is not as good, but there are still savings available.
You must call Marriott to redeem a Travel Package. They’ll process the airline mile transfer on the phone and then issue a digital certificate for seven nights at your chosen category of hotel. You can then either apply the certificate immediately, or wait until you have a booking in mind to use the certificate (although you’ll need to call again to apply it to the reservation).
