For the third year in a row, RBC Avion is offering a transfer bonus to American Airlines AAdvantage in the month of August.

You can transfer RBC Avion Rewards points to American Airlines AAdvantage miles and receive 15% more, valid from August 1–31, 2026.

We’re flagging this one early to give you time to accumulate points, plan a redemption, and be ready to make your transfer as soon as the bonus goes live on August 1.

15% Transfer Bonus from RBC Avion to American Airlines AAdvantage

RBC Avion is offering a 15% transfer bonus to American Airlines AAdvantage miles for the entire month of August 2026. Since we’re sharing it ahead of time, you have plenty of runway to do your research and decide whether it’s right for you before the offer goes live.

This is the third year running that we’ve seen a transfer bonus to American Airlines AAdvantage, and hopefully it means we’ll continue to see it as a regular fixture going forward.

Conversion bonuses like these are a great way to boost account balances without any extra cost to you, and in fact, they’re the best time to transfer points out of your account.

This time, for every 10 Avion points which are converted, you’ll receive 8.05 American Airlines AAdvantage miles. That means the conversion rate improves from the standard 1:0.7 transfer ratio to 1:0.805.

In past years, the bonus hasn’t always been reflected in the conversion platform on the Avion Rewards website in real time, so you may see the standard 1:0.7 transfer ratio displayed. Regardless, as long as you make your transfer during the promotional window, you’ll receive the bonus.

To be eligible for the transfer bonus, you’ll need to have an eligible RBC Avion credit card, and make a transfer between August 1 and August 31, 2026.

You need to convert a minimum of 5,000 Avion points, and after that, you can increase the amount in increments of 10 points.

While the rate might not be as lucrative as a 1:1 transfer rate available to other partnered programs available through Avion Rewards, when you add in the 15% bonus, it does make things more exciting than usual, especially given the fact that AAdvantage has some excellent redemption opportunities, as we’ll explore below.

It’s also good to keep in mind that the current welcome bonuses on the lineup of RBC Avion credit cards offer a tidy swath of points upon approval, which means you’d be able to take advantage of a welcome bonus, and then convert it into AAdvantage miles before the end of the month.

For example, the current welcome bonus for the RBC® Avion Visa Infinite^† is 35,000 Avion points awarded upon approval^†, plus another 20,000 Avion points after you spend $5,000 in the first six months.

If you then transfer those points to AAdvantage miles during the 15% transfer bonus event, you’d get 44,275 miles versus the 38,500 that you’d otherwise get with the standard transfer bonus.

Plus, if you happen to have what we like to call “The Optimized RBC Credit Card Portfolio” – which means you leverage the category earning rates on the RBC® ION+ Visa with the redemption options as an Avion Elite member (by way of holding an eligible Avion card) – the 3 Avion points per dollar spent that you earn on qualifying grocery, dining, food delivery, gas, rideshare, daily public transit, electric vehicle charging, streaming, digital gaming and digital subscriptions^† works out to 2.415 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent (with the 15% transfer bonus taken into consideration).

If you don’t yet have the RBC® ION+ Visa, the current offer awards up to 28,000 Avion points, starting with 7,000 Avion points upon approval and a further 14,000 Avion points after $1,500 in spending^†.

Therefore, if you were to build The Optimized RBC Credit Card Portfolio from scratch, you could earn up to 55,000 Avion points from the RBC® Avion Visa Infinite^† and up to 21,000 more from the RBC® ION+ Visa, for 76,000 Avion points, which could then be converted to 61,180 AAdvantage miles.

Add in any Avion points you earn in the weeks leading up to and during the transfer bonus, and you’ll be well on your way to an excellent redemption, as we’ll explore below.

One last thing worth calling out. If you currently hold only the RBC® ION+ Visa and have been steadily accumulating Avion points, this is a great time to consider upgrading to one of the RBC Avion cards. ION+ cardholders sit at the Premium tier of Avion Rewards, which can only transfer points to WestJet Rewards. Moving up to an Avion card unlocks the Elite tier, which opens up transfers to all four airline partners, including American Airlines AAdvantage, and any points you’ve already banked come along with you when you upgrade.

How to Maximize the RBC Avion to AAdvantage Transfer Bonus

The American Airlines AAdvantage program has excellent redemption opportunities for oneworld and other partner airlines which is good news if you’re looking to maximize this latest RBC Avion transfer bonus.

One of best redemptions with AAdvantage miles is booking Etihad Airways A380 First Class (Etihad Apartments) from Abu Dhabi to London for 62,500 AAdvantage miles, plus a very reasonable $34 (USD) in taxes and fees.

With the transfer bonus taken into consideration, you’d need to convert 77,640 Avion points, which is a great price to pay for an exclusive suite in the sky, complete with access to the coveted onboard shower.

If you’re departing from Canada, the standout option is Etihad’s A380 nonstop from Toronto to Abu Dhabi, which lets you settle into a First Class Apartment without connecting through the US or Europe. The flight prices out at 115,000 AAdvantage miles one-way in First Class, plus $81.52 (CAD) in taxes and fees, which works out to 142,857 Avion points with the transfer bonus.

You could stretch your time in Apartments even further by flying from Singapore to Abu Dhabi, and then onward to Paris, for 90,000 AAdvantage miles and $88.50 in taxes and fees. That works out to 111,802 Avion points with the transfer bonus.

Alternatively, you could consider a flight from Vancouver to Tokyo in Japan Airlines business class for just 60,000 miles, which is equivalent to 74,540 RBC Avion points with the transfer bonus.

Or, you could level up to Japan Airlines First Class and pay just 80,000 miles, or 99,380 Avion points with the transfer bonus.

Closer to home, you can fly from Vancouver to Cancun in business class via an AA hub in the US for just 20,000 AAdvantage miles, which is just 24,845 RBC Avion points with the transfer bonus…

It’s worth noting that you can book Qatar Airways Qsuites with AAdvantage miles; however, you can also book the flights through The British Airways Club (and Qatar Airways Privilege Club), which both use Avios as a currency.

Since the conversion rate to British Airways Avios is 1:1, you’re better off booking Qsuites through the Avios ecosystem, especially if you can hold out for the next transfer bonus event.
