American Express has rolled out another new Amex Offer. This time, you can earn a $250 statement credit when you spend at least $1,000 in qualifying flight purchases with Air France or KLM.
Air France & KLM: Spend $1,000, Get $250
By spending $1,000 in a single qualifying purchase or cumulative purchases on your registered card by August 31, 2022, you’ll earn a $250 statement credit.
Qualifying purchases must be made online at airfrance.ca or klm.ca or on the Air France/KLM mobile apps. If you were to make a purchase of exactly $1,000, you’d effectively get a 25% discount on your flight purchase(s).
Keep in mind that the offer has a limited registration cap of the first 20,000 cardholders, so it’s best to register as soon as possible to ensure that you’re eligible.
We’ve seen this offer popping up across a wide range of American Express cards, including the Platinum Card, Business Platinum Card, and Cobalt Card. Be sure to check each of your cards to see whether the offer has shown up and register accordingly, especially if you’re playing the game in two-player mode or more.
Save $250 on Air France and KLM Flights
This offer can be a great incentive to book with Air France or KLM on any upcoming travel plans to Europe you might have in 2022 and 2023.
Air France operates flights from Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Recently, Quebec City has become the airline’s fourth Canadian destination. Meanwhile, KLM counts Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Edmonton among its Canadian destinations.
Take the new Quebec City–Paris route for example. A round-trip economy flight from Quebec to Paris onboard Air France would cost just over $1,100 after taxes and fees. By booking this flight, you can unlock the $250 statement in just one purchase.
If you travel to Europe frequently and would prefer to fly in business class rather than economy, then be on the lookout for cheap round-trip business class fares departing from Europe for North America.
You’d use the westbound leg as the return journey of your first trip and the eastbound leg as the outbound of your next trip.
Historically, we’ve often seen transatlantic airlines (including Air France and KLM) offering very affordable business class flights originating out of Europe, often in the range of $1,500–2,000 (CAD) for the round-trip.
By stacking with the Amex Offer, you’d be able to save a further $250 right away. (Deals in this range are rarely witnessed out of North America.)
Lastly, note that you can also save a good chunk with this Amex Offer if you’d prefer to redeem points for your flights rather than paying cash.
That’s because the taxes and fees on Air France/KLM Flying Blue redemptions will also count towards the credit. With Flying Blue, the taxes and fees can be relatively high, sometimes in the region of $300 per person per direction for some of the airlines’ more far-flung destinations.
In the above example, if you were redeeming two Flying Blue miles for two passengers to travel to Bora Bora round-trip in business class, the taxes and fees would reach the $1,000 threshold and unlock a $250 savings by way of this Amex Offer.
With the Flying Blue program offering rotating Promo Rewards on a monthly basis as well, it’s always worth looking out for a good deal and combining it with this Amex Offer to save on the taxes if you’re booking multiple trips or for multiple passengers.
Scotiabank American Express Cardholders Can Register Too
As we often see with these Amex Offers, the offer is also available for primary and supplementary cardholders of the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card, Scotiabank American Express Card, and Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card.
For Scotiabank cardholders, you can register via this link.
Conclusion
A new Amex Offer allows eligible cardholders to earn a $250 statement credit upon spending a minimum of $1,000 on cumulative flight purchases with Air France/KLM.
Be sure to check all of your cards to see if the promotion pops up, as not every American Express card is targeted for this offer. Those with Scotiabank American Express products can register via the dedicated portal link to multiply your savings.
Keep in mind that the registration cap is limited to the first 20,000 cardholders, so it’s best to register as soon as possible, and then book your flights through August 31, 2022.
