The American Express Cobalt Card is one of the most popular cards in Canada, and for good reason. It's the ultimate lifestyle card, earning incomparable rewards on groceries and restaurants, with Canada's most flexible points program.
| Tier | Amount | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly bonus | 15,000 | $750/month spend for 12 months (1,250/month) |
Annual Fee
$191.88($15.99/month)

The monthly fee structure is unique—it lets you bail out early if the card isn't working for you, rather than being locked into a full annual fee, which is worth considering if you're uncertain about long-term spend.

The Cobalt Card's strong everyday earning rates make it a valuable addition to most wallets.
The card is also one of the few to offer a 5x category multiplier on spending in Canada.

Membership Rewards points offer flexibility across multiple airline programs. You can transfer to airlines in all three major alliances: Star Alliance (through Aeroplan), oneworld (through British Airways), and SkyTeam (through Air France KLM Flying Blue), plus access to external partners like Etihad Airways.
You can also redeem MR points directly for flights through the Amex Fixed Points Travel reward chart, though these are limited to round-trip flights departing from Canada. Alternatively, redeem directly against travel purchases at 1 cent per point, though this typically provides less value than transfer partners.
Transfer to airline and hotel partners
GeneralThe strength of the Cobalt card is in its earning rates, and not so much in extra benefits. That said, you'll still get to enjoy some perks just for being an American Express cardholder.
You can also take advantage of specially-tailored Amex Offers for extra value when used at specific dining venues, shops, and more.
