Upcoming Changes to the Rogers World Elite Mastercard

Rogers Bank has just announced some upcoming changes to the Rogers® World Elite® Mastercard, which come into effect as of April 9, 2024.

In addition to getting a new name, the card’s baseline earning rate will increase and there will be a new cash back redemption bonus; however, these only apply if you’re an eligible Fido, Rogers, or Shaw customer.

The Revamped Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard

As of April 9, 2024, the Rogers® World Elite® Mastercard will be known as the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard.

The card will also see an increase to its baseline earning rate for eligible cardholders, and other enhancements being introduced.

Currently, the Rogers World Elite Mastercard has the following earning rates for eligible purchases:

  • 1.5% cash back on all eligible Canadian-dollar purchases†
  • 3% cash back on all eligible US-dollar purchases†

As of April 9, 2024, the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard will feature the following earning rates:

  • 1.5% cash back on all eligible Canadian-dollar purchases for non-Rogers, Fido, and Shaw customers†
  • 2% cash back on all eligible Canadian-dollar purchases for Rogers, Fido, and Shaw customers†
  • 3% cash back on all eligible US-dollar purchases†

In other words, if you’re an eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer, you’re getting a bump of 0.5% cash back on all Canadian-dollar purchases, for a baseline earning rate of 2% cash back on all Canadian-dollar purchases.

However, if you redeem your cash back for a Rogers, Fido, or Shaw purchase, you’ll get a 1.5x redemption boost as of April 9, 2024. This results in an effective cash back value of 3%.

For example, if you spend $1,000 on your Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard, you’ll earn $20 cash back as an eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer with the new baseline 2% cash back earning rate.

Then, if you redeem that cash back for an eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw purchase, you’ll get a total of $30 with the 1.5x boost.

In addition to the revamped earning rates and 1.5x redemption bonus, eligible cardholders of the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard will enjoy five complimentary Roam Like Home days each year with an eligible Rogers mobile plan.†

This benefit will allow you to use your mobile phone outside of Canada without any additional fees.

Roam Like Home days usually cost $12 (CAD) per day in the United States, or $15 (CAD) for all other eligible international destinations. Therefore, if you make use of this new benefit, you’ll save up to $75 (CAD) each year.†

Previously, you had to spend $15,000 each year on the Rogers World Elite Mastercard to be eligible to remain a cardholder each year. Otherwise, you may have been moved to the Rogers Mastercard instead, which comes with fewer cardholder benefits.

However, as of April 9, 2024, the $15,000 annual minimum spending requirement will be removed.

It’s worth noting that there will be no changes to the insurance coverage, and the card will continue to have no annual fee.

Canada’s Best No Fee Cash Back Credit Card Gets a Makeover

These upcoming changes are all positive, especially if you’re an eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer. Plus, they come without the addition of an annual fee, which is great.

We consider the Rogers® World Elite® Mastercard to be the best no fee cash back card in Canada, and it’s only getting stronger, as long as you’re an eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer.

If you redeem your cash back for eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw purchases, your baseline earning rate is effectively 3% on all Canadian purchases.

Plus, any purchases made in US dollars will effectively result in a 4.5% cash back earning rate. However, you’ll also be charged a 2.5% foreign transaction fee, so with that taken into consideration, the net is 2% cash back on US purchases.

As always, you may want to use a card with no foreign transaction fees instead.

It’s worth noting that these upcoming changes bring the Rogers World Elite Mastercard more in line with the recently revamped Rogers Mastercard.

Late last year, the baseline earning rate for Rogers, Fido, and Shaw customers with the Rogers Mastercard changed to 2% cash back on Canadian purchases.† When paired with the card’s 1.5x redemption bonus for eligible Rogers, Fido, and Shaw purchases, that jumps up to an effective 3% cash back rate, too.†

However, the Rogers Mastercard doesn’t come with any of the World Elite benefits available on the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard, including the following:

Therefore, as long as you’re eligible to apply for the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard, it’s worth aiming for it with its incremental benefits over the Rogers Mastercard.

Conclusion

Rogers has announced some upcoming changes to the Rogers® World Elite® Mastercard, which take effect as of April 9, 2024.

The card will be known as the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard, and it’s getting a bump to its baseline earning rate (for eligible Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customers only).†

Plus, cardholders will enjoy a 1.5x redemption boost for eligible Rogers, Fido, and Shaw purchases, as well as five complimentary Roam Like Home days with an eligible Rogers mobile plan.†

It’s great to see Rogers enhancing the benefits offered on its cards without imposing an annual fee. If you’re a Rogers customer looking for a cash back card with no annual fee, look no further than the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard.

If these cash back rates are available on all eligible Canadian-dollar purchases, what is the cash back rate for a purchase in EUR?

Apology, the article wasn’t too clear. If one has an account with rogers/shaw/fido, all purchases will have at least 2% cash back, and if you redeem these 2% cash back to a Rogers/shaw/fido bill, this 2% will turn into 3%.
Now if you happen to make the purchase in USD, then it will be 3$ cash back, and 4.5% if used on those said bills.
For EURO, it will be 2% after converting the transaction into CAD first.

It’s too bad the card nets non-Rogers customers a 0.5% cash back, only in USD. I will keep it since there’s no annual fee. Rogers did not disclose they are still charging the 2.5% FX fees, and telling customers they could earn 3% on USD was probably misleading.
