Amex Aeroplan Reserve Cards: Earn 10x Points on Air Canada

Air Canada and American Express have teamed up to offer some incentives to book travel through to the end of the year.

From now until May 19, 2023, you can earn 10x Aeroplan points per dollar spent on up to $750 in purchases made with Air Canada or Air Canada Vacations if you use an American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card or an American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card to pay.

The 10x points is inclusive of the points you’d regularly earn on these purchases, which means that you’re effectively earning 7x bonus points per dollar spent.

In addition, there’s also a 15% discount code that has been sent out for flights within Canada and to the United States and Sun destinations, which should help stretch your dollars a bit farther.

Aeroplan Reserve Cards: 10x Points on Air Canada Purchases

With this promotion, you can earn a 10x Aeroplan points per dollar spent on Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations purchases, on up to $750 spent.

Your flights must be booked between May 1–19 to be eligible for the bonus points, and you’ll need to pay with an American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card or an American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card.

This 10x earning rate is inclusive of the regular 3x earning rate on Air Canada purchases on these cards, so you can also think of it as 7x bonus Aeroplan points on up to $750 spent.

This means that you could earn up to a total of 7,500 Aeroplan points if you were to maximize the offer.

American Express Aeroplan Reserve Cards
Credit Card Best Offer Value
Up to 125,000 Aeroplan points $1,868 Apply Now
120,000 Aeroplan points $1,711 Apply Now

Additionally, the invitation-only American Express Air Canada Card also qualifies for the 7x bonus points; however, the lower-tier American Express Aeroplan Card does not.

There’s no need to register for this promotion, since all cardholders will automatically be eligible.

Moreover, some individuals would’ve received marketing emails from Amex about this promotion, but you’ll still be eligible even if you haven’t received an email.

It’s important to note that to be eligible for the bonus points, you’ll need to book your flight directly with Air Canada as the merchant, including Air Canada Vacations packages purchased directly from Air Canada. This suggests that purchases made across Air Canada’s sales channels, including its website, call centre, and sales offices, will all qualify.

However, exclusions noted in the promotion’s terms include:

  • Air Canada tickets purchased from an online website other than Air Canada, through a travel agent, or as part of a vacation package from another merchant
  • Air Canada gift cards
  • Air Canada Maple Leaf Club memberships
  • Purchases made with another merchant, such as a hotel or car rental booking, on the Air Canada website

10x bonus Aeroplan points per dollar spent is extremely valuable, and it’s certainly worth splitting your upcoming Air Canada purchases across as many cards in your household as possible, since each card gets its own $750 (CAD) limit. For example, on a multi-person trip, you can purchase tickets per person rather buying them in one transaction for everyone.

As with most promotions of this nature, the points you earn should count towards your Everyday Status Qualification, giving you a boost towards earning entry-level Aeroplan 25K status without having to fly.

15% Off Base Fares with Air Canada

Concurrently, Air Canada is also offering 15% discount on base fares in economy class, premium economy, and business class within Canada, the US, and the Caribbean.

Unique promo codes have been sent via emails to targeted cardholders. To avail yourself of the discount, you must make your booking by May 19, 2023 for travel between May 1–December 15, 2023.

If you have any upcoming intra-North America trips with Air Canada over the upcoming period, now may be a good time to lock in a booking, taking advantage of both the 15% discount and the 10x Aeroplan points for paying with an Amex Aeroplan co-branded credit card.

Until May 19, 2023, you’ll earn 10x Aeroplan points per dollar spent on Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations with your American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card or American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card.

There’s no need to register to qualify, just be sure to make an eligible purchase directly with Air Canada.

Keep in mind that there’s a maximum of $750 (CAD) in purchases that will be eligible for the bonus, corresponding to 7,500 points earned. Amounts above the limit will earn the usual rate of 3 points per dollar spent.

This offer is definitely worth considering if you have an upcoming trip within Canada, the US, and the Caribbean, since you can take advantage of it in conjunction with a 15% discount on base fares if you’ve been sent a unique code through email.

This deal was amazing. Some cheap trips to CUBA came up and wife and I have been wanting to go back for years (for the beaches not the food lol). One week last minute trip starting June 1 was $1190 each (and that is business class tickets – economy was even cheaper) and got 17K+ points back (we both have the reserve cards so we did a simple split payment). All of the points posted (including the bonus (the day the transaction posted! They are already there! I can leverage this towards my next business class fair! thats for sure $600-$700 value in points if I can max leverage their value. What a steal!

    Hey Ricky

This article reads that any purchase on Air Canada on the cards mentioned within the period is eligible for the promotion.

I am just wondering if they mean that only flights booked for travel within North America and Sun destinations (as the CIBC promo states) are eligible.

The screenshot of the AMEX promo seems to imply this, and your last paragraph seems to support it.

    Can you clarify?
