National Bank^® World Mastercard^®

The National Bank^® World Mastercard^® sits between the Platinum and the World Elite in National Bank's lineup. It earns À la carte Rewards points at a flat rate on every purchase instead of using bonus categories, and it carries travel insurance for trips of up to 60 days.

The National Bank^® World Mastercard^® doesn't currently have a welcome bonus.

The card has an annual fee of $115, and there's a $35 fee for each additional card.

To qualify, you'll need a minimum personal income of $50,000 or a minimum household income of $80,000.

The National Bank^® World Mastercard^® earns the same rate on every purchase, and that rate depends on how much you've spent over a 12-month period starting on the date you opened the account.^†

• Earn 1.25 À la carte Rewards points per dollar spent on the first $20,000 in net purchases
• Earn 2 À la carte Rewards points per dollar spent on net purchases from $20,001 to $30,000
• Earn 1.25 À la carte Rewards points per dollar spent on net purchases above $30,000

The 2x band is only $10,000 wide, so the card works out to a little over 1.25 points per dollar spent for most spending patterns.

À la carte Rewards points are worth the most when you redeem them for travel. Through National Bank's À la carte Travel agency, every 10,000 points takes $100 off a booking, for a value of 1 cent per point.

You can also book travel anywhere you like and redeem points for a statement credit within 60 days of the charge. This costs 12,000 points per $100, or 0.83 cents per point. If you redeem 55,000 points or more at once, the rate improves to 11,000 points per $100, or 0.91 cents per point.

Outside of travel, you can put points towards a National Bank RRSP, TFSA, or FHSA through À la carte Extras at 12,000 points per $100. Gift cards and merchandise from the online boutique return less, and paying down your card balance takes 25,000 points for $100, so it makes sense to save your points for a trip.
