Video: The Aeroplan Short-Haul Sweet Spot

We often talk about redeeming Aeroplan miles for luxurious international trips, but the program is also ideally suited to taking “easy” trips around North America as well, particularly by taking advantage of the short-haul sweet spot of paying only 15,000 miles for round-trip economy flights on Air Canada within certain regions.

As I’ve written about before, one of the best applications of Aeroplan’s short-haul rewards is when you’re travelling to Canada’s Atlantic provinces, so I drew inspiration on this particular sweet spot when producing this week’s new video on my trip to Halifax and St. John’s earlier in the week.

In the video, we talk about the value of using an Aeroplan short-haul reward on flights in the Atlantic region (which can often get disproportionately expensive), the compounded value in “nesting” your flights to double-up the sweet spot, and the many other instances all around Canada and North America where short-haul awards might come in handy.

it doesn’t even let you search iqaluit/yfb on aeroplan…

You need to call in to book that, since the northern Canadian airlines aren’t bookable online.

How much were the taxes & fees for each itinerary? (original trip + nested trip)

Wonderful video, Ricky. From a Newfoundlander who now lives in Nova Scotia, you have spelled out a very helpful way to use Aeroplan, especially in the east of Canada! Thanks for all you do!
