Video: The 9 Types of People in Miles & Points

The Miles & Points community is a diverse bunch, and we’re all in this game for different reasons.

Whenever we get together at in-person events, there’s always a good mix of people who are leveraging credit cards and points for their varying interests and goals, and it’s always interesting to chat with everyone and see things from their perspective.

In this video, let’s talk about the nine most common types of people you tend to run into in this community: from those who prefer a minimalist approach, to those who seek to travel to as many places as possible, to those who love to pursue luxurious airline experiences, to those who are all about the money.

What is each type of person motivated by, what do they care most strongly about – and which categories might you fall into?

yeah, bigshots will be diverse. For me, churning is only worth it for big bonuses, and sweet perks (love taking friends to the lounge with amex plat). i find no joy in expensive hotels, and only consider direct flights. and i think amex biz gold is a great bigshot card because you can get an obscene number of MR through plastiq that way. Also buying alaska miles has crossed my mind a few times.

Finding out what works for oneself is the joiurney. There is a lack of guide for the higher income as most blogs have to be broad to get interest. Maybe you can start one!

Biz gold is good because it’s reproducible at a decent value (.75c if you get it on sale). Buying points makes sense to avoid micromanage multiple cards amid slow build up.

I guess for everyone it’s different, but starting level of 450K income and 3-4M net worth would be a "bigshot"? Assume 15K for flight for 2, $1.5K/day *14 days and 2 trips a year, they can afford the 70-80K price tag yearly. So buying points and using rick’s service would make sense as they can reduce that by half.

On the other hand, "big shots" probably would want a more tailored experience that doesn’t involve own planning.

I would like to put in a request for a blog post for the "bigshots". What are the opportunities that the bigshots should be exploiting/considering? Thanks!
