WestJet and Petro-Canada Announce New Loyalty Partnership

WestJet Rewards is adding another everyday earning partner to its growing roster. The airline has announced a new partnership with Petro-Points, Petro-Canada's loyalty program, that will let members earn and redeem across both programs at more than 1,500 Petro-Canada retail locations across the country.
It's expected to launch in early 2027, with full details on conversion rates and account linking to follow.
What the Partnership Includes
Once live, linked members will be able to earn Petro-Points on fuel, car washes, and convenience store purchases, while also unlocking new ways to redeem WestJet points beyond flights.

Petro-Points members will earn a 20% bonus on Petro-Points at Petro-Canada locations. Platinum-tier members who fuel at least 1,000 litres per quarter will continue to earn 50% more Petro-Points on fuel purchases.
On the redemption side, WestJet Rewards members will be able to use their WestJet points at Petro-Canada for eligible purchases, including fuel, car washes, and convenience items. Petro-Points will also be convertible to WestJet points, though the exact conversion ratio hasn't been announced yet.
Exclusive contests offering vacation packages and flights will also be part of the partnership, adding a travel dimension to the Petro-Points program.
WestJet's Growing Loyalty Ecosystem
This is the latest in a string of partnership announcements for WestJet Rewards. Just last month, the airline launched a cross-loyalty partnership with Triangle Rewards, letting members earn WestJet points at Canadian Tire, SportChek, and Mark's.
Combined with WestJet's existing co-brand credit cards through RBC – including the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ – it's clear the airline is building out a broader earn-and-burn ecosystem that extends well beyond flights.

From what I can tell, WestJet is taking a page from Scene+'s playbook here. Scene+ partnered with Shell to give members a fuel earning option, and both programs are now converging on the same idea. Build a loyalty currency that touches as many parts of your daily spending as possible.
The key difference is that WestJet Rewards is an airline-first program, while Scene+ started as entertainment and retail loyalty. Whether that distinction still matters when both let you earn on gas, groceries, and flights remains to be seen.
Conclusion
Full details on conversion ratios, account linking, and an exact launch date are still to come. For now, this is an announcement of intent rather than a product you can use today.
But the direction is clear. WestJet is positioning its Rewards program as a lifestyle loyalty currency, not just an airline one. If the Petro-Points integration follows the same earn-on-top structure as the Triangle Rewards partnership, it'll be another zero-effort way to accumulate WestJet points on spending you're already doing.
I'll be watching the conversion ratio closely when it's announced. That's what will determine whether this partnership is a real value-add or just a nice-to-have.
