The New United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard Is Now Available

Back in February, Neo Financial and United Airlines officially announced that they'd be partnering to launch a new co-branded credit card in Canada.
As of today, the United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard is officially open for applications, marking the arrival of the first premium co-branded United card available to Canadians.
Let's take a detailed look at the welcome bonus, earning rates, fees, perks, and benefits.
The Welcome Offer
The United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard is launching with a welcome offer of up to 25,000 MileagePlus miles, broken down as follows:
- Earn 5,000 MileagePlus miles upon card activation and your first transaction

- Earn a 5,000-mile Renewal Bonus each year your account remains open and active with eligible spend in the prior 365 days
The card carries an annual fee of $89, which is among the lowest of any premium airline co-brand card in Canada.

We typically value MileagePlus miles at 1.6 cents per mile. Using this figure, the 20,000-mile upfront welcome offer is worth roughly $320, with an additional 5,000-mile Renewal Bonus worth around $80 landing each subsequent year.
The income requirements are $80,000 in personal annual income or $150,000 in household income, which are standard thresholds for a World Elite Mastercard.
Earning Rates
Cardholders earn MileagePlus miles on every eligible purchase. The earning structure is as follows:
- Earn 1.25 miles per dollar on United Airlines and Star Alliance partner flights
- Earn 1 mile per dollar on dining and groceries
- Earn 0.75 miles per dollar on all other eligible purchases
Miles are calculated monthly and credited to your United MileagePlus account. If you don't already have a MileagePlus membership, one will be created for you during the application process.
On top of the base earn rates, cardholders also get access to Neo's merchant partner network of 10,000+ brands, which offers bonus MileagePlus miles on select purchases. These offers live in the Neo app and stack on top of the base earning.

MileagePlus Cardholder Benefits
One of the strongest reasons to hold a United co-brand card is the expanded access you get to the MileagePlus program itself.
As a cardholder, you'll automatically receive at least 10% off United award flights, with the discount rising to 15% if you hold Premier Status. That translates into using fewer miles for the same trip, every time you redeem.
Even more importantly, cardholders unlock exclusive Saver Award availability that isn't visible to non-cardholders. This includes premium cabin seats on United Polaris® business class routes that would otherwise show as sold out.

For Canadians, this is a new and meaningful angle on United redemptions. Historically, the main path to booking United flights with miles has been to transfer Canadian bank points into Aeroplan and book United through Aeroplan's partner award chart. With the United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard, you can now earn MileagePlus miles directly from Canadian daily spending and book United metal on your own terms – often with access to seats that Aeroplan members simply can't see.
MileagePlus miles don't expire as long as your account remains active, so you can pool them over time for higher-value international redemptions.
United Travel Perks
The card comes packed with United-specific travel perks designed to improve every flight:
- Free first checked bag on United-operated flights for the primary cardholder and travel companions on the same reservation
- Priority boarding in Group 2 on United-operated flights, for the primary cardholder and travel companions
- NEXUS application fee credit of up to $120 (USD), reimbursed once every five years toward a new NEXUS application or renewal
United currently charges around $35 (USD) per checked bag each way on North American flights. On a single round-trip, one traveller checking one bag already offsets the full $89 annual fee, and a couple checking one bag each more than doubles it.

Cardholders also enjoy Star Alliance reach through the MileagePlus program, with 25+ partner airlines including Air Canada, Lufthansa, ANA, Singapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines, all available as both earning and redemption options.
World Elite Mastercard Benefits
Beyond the United-specific perks, the card carries the full suite of World Elite Mastercard benefits and travel insurance coverages underwritten by Chubb.
The card carries the full Neo World Elite Mastercard travel insurance package, underwritten by Chubb Insurance Company of Canada. Highlights include:
- Out-of-province and out-of-country emergency medical of up to $1,000,000 (CAD) per insured person for the first 14 days of a trip, for cardholders under age 60
- Trip cancellation of up to $1,000 per person, to a maximum of $5,000 per trip
- Trip interruption of up to $1,000 per person, to a maximum of $5,000 per trip, plus up to $150 per day for commercial accommodation and meals if your return is delayed
- Flight delay of up to $250 per day, to a maximum of $500 per occurrence, after a four-hour delay
- Delayed and lost baggage of up to $1,000 combined, covering emergency purchases after a six-hour delay and lost or damaged checked baggage
- Auto rental collision and loss damage waiver on vehicles with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of up to $65,000 (CAD), for rentals up to 48 days, on a primary basis
- Car rental accidental death and dismemberment of up to $100,000 for the primary cardholder and $10,000 for a spouse or dependent child
- Car rental personal effects of up to $1,000 per person, to a maximum of $2,000 per occurrence
- Hotel and motel burglary of up to $1,000 for personal items stolen from your room
- Purchase protection against loss, theft, or damage for 90 days from the date of purchase
- Extended warranty that doubles the manufacturer's warranty by up to one additional year on eligible items
The full cost of the trip, rental, or purchase must be charged to the card (or redeemed through points from the associated travel reward program) in order to trigger coverage. Travel insurance benefits are not available to residents of Quebec due to regulatory restrictions. For complete terms, refer to the Neo Financial insurance certificates.
Cardholders also receive a complimentary Mastercard Travel Pass membership, powered by DragonPass, which provides access to 1,400+ airport lounges worldwide. Each lounge visit is charged at a per-visit rate, so this isn't an unlimited lounge benefit – it's closer to a lounge pass platform than a traditional Priority Pass membership.
A Secured Option for Newer Credit Profiles
One of the things we really appreciate about this launch is that the card is also available in a secured version. Applicants who don't yet qualify for the unsecured card can provide a security deposit and still receive the same earn rates, the same travel perks, and full MileagePlus access.
This is where Neo deserves real credit for doing something most traditional Canadian banks simply won't. We often hear from newcomers to Canada who meet the income requirements, have significant assets, and are perfectly creditworthy on paper, but get turned down by the big banks purely because they haven't yet built up a Canadian credit history. That's an isolating experience – watching everyone around you take advantage of premium travel card perks while you're stuck on the sidelines waiting for a credit file to mature.
A secured version of a premium airline co-brand card with identical benefits solves exactly that problem. Newcomers, students, and anyone rebuilding their credit profile can participate in the Canadian points and miles ecosystem from day one, earn real MileagePlus miles on their spending, and enjoy the same free checked bags, priority boarding, and Saver Award access as any other cardholder. It's a genuinely inclusive product design, and it's the kind of move we'd love to see more Canadian issuers follow.
Who Should Apply?
If you fly United or Star Alliance partners out of Canada even a couple of times a year, the math on this card starts working in your favour almost immediately. One round-trip with a checked bag for two travellers already offsets most of the $89 annual fee, and the 10 to 15% discount on award flights plus cardholder-only Saver Award availability can shave tens of thousands of miles off a single Polaris business class redemption.
If you don't fly United with any regularity, this probably isn't the card for you. The base earning rates outside of United and Star Alliance flights are modest, and there are stronger everyday earners on the Canadian market for general spending.
The secured version also opens the door for newcomers, students, and anyone still building their Canadian credit file, which is a rare thing to see on a premium airline co-brand and worth highlighting.
We'll publish a full head-to-head review against the other Canadian airline co-brands in the near future. In the meantime, head over to Neo Financial's website to learn more.
