Lufthansa Group Adds Edmonton–Frankfurt Flights and Two New US Routes

Edmonton is getting a nonstop flight to Germany again. Discover Airlines, the Lufthansa Group's leisure airline, will start flying between Frankfurt (FRA) and Edmonton (YEG) on June 1, 2027.
The route is part of the Lufthansa Group's summer 2027 schedule, which also adds two new US cities, Columbus (CMH) and Phoenix (PHX), plus more flights to Montreal (YUL). All of it is bookable now.
The New North American Routes
Three of the new routes touch North America, and each one runs three times a week.
| Route | Airline | Starts | Days | Aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frankfurt (FRA) – Edmonton (YEG) | Discover Airlines | June 1, 2027 | Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday | Airbus A330-300 |
| Frankfurt (FRA) – Columbus (CMH) | Lufthansa | May 5, 2027 | Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday | Boeing 787-9 |
| Munich (MUC) – Phoenix (PHX) | Lufthansa | August 3, 2027 | Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday | Airbus A350-900 |
On top of those, Lufthansa is adding frequencies to Montreal (YUL), and Discover is taking over Lufthansa's flights to Seattle (SEA). More on both below.

Discover Airlines Comes to Edmonton
Flights between Frankfurt (FRA) and Edmonton (YEG) are seasonal, running from June 1 to October 30, 2027. Flights leave Frankfurt in the early afternoon and land in Edmonton the same afternoon, with an overnight flight back. All times are local.
| Flight | Route | Departs | Arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4Y070 | Frankfurt (FRA) – Edmonton (YEG) | 1:05pm | 2:30pm |
| 4Y071 | Edmonton (YEG) – Frankfurt (FRA) | 4:15pm | 9:05am (next day) |
Edmonton will be Discover's third Canadian city after Calgary (YYC) and Halifax (YHZ). Discover is pitching the two Alberta airports as a pair, so you could fly to Frankfurt from Edmonton and come home to Calgary, or the other way around.
Edmonton has had this link before. We covered Condor's Frankfurt–Edmonton launch back in 2023, but Discover says it'll be the only nonstop between Germany and Edmonton International Airport once it starts.
What You'll Fly On
Discover is putting an Airbus A330-300 on the route with 283 seats, including 30 in business class, 28 in premium economy, and 225 in economy.

Business class has lie-flat beds, and meals are included in every cabin. Premium economy adds beer and wine, while economy passengers pay for alcohol.
Discover is also bringing a new long-haul cabin, which it calls Ocean Blue, to its A330 fleet from 2027. It's being phased in gradually, so I wouldn't count on it for Edmonton in the first season.
Booking Discover Airlines with Aeroplan
Discover Airlines has been an Aeroplan partner since its Eurowings Discover days, and we covered that partnership back in 2021. Like Lufthansa, it's priced on Aeroplan's fixed partner chart, with no fuel surcharges.
Edmonton (YEG) to Frankfurt (FRA) is about 4,544 miles, which puts it in the 4,001–6,000-mile band of the North America–Atlantic chart. That works out to 42,500 Aeroplan points one-way in economy or 75,000 Aeroplan points in business class.
Aeroplan only sells premium economy on Air Canada flights, so on Discover you'll be choosing between economy and business class.
American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Aeroplan at 1:1, so 75,000 MR points covers a one-way business class seat. Our list of the best Aeroplan credit cards covers the other ways to build a balance.
I haven't seen how much award space Discover will release on Edmonton yet, so it's worth searching Aeroplan once the schedule settles. If you collect elsewhere, Discover flights also earn and redeem through Miles & More and United MileagePlus.
Allegris Is Coming to Columbus
On the US side, the bigger story for premium travellers is Columbus. Lufthansa will fly Frankfurt (FRA) – Columbus (CMH) from May 5, 2027 on a Boeing 787-9 with its Allegris cabins, making it the only European airline flying nonstop to Ohio's capital.
Phoenix (PHX) follows on August 3, 2027, with an Airbus A350-900 from Munich (MUC). The announcement doesn't say which cabin version that aircraft will carry.
Neither city is an obvious starting point for most Canadians. Still, every new Lufthansa route adds to the pool of Star Alliance seats you can search with Aeroplan.

Elsewhere in the US, Lufthansa is adding flights between Munich and Chicago (ORD), and Austrian Airlines is returning to Los Angeles (LAX) in late April 2027.
More Flights to Montreal and a Change in Seattle
Lufthansa will add frequencies to Montreal (YUL) next summer, though it hasn't said how many. Its flights from Montreal to Munich (MUC) already use the Airbus A350-900 with Allegris business class, which makes them one of the more reliable ways to try the new cabin from Canada.
Out west, Discover will take over Lufthansa's flights from Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC) to Seattle (SEA) from late March 2027, with service growing to daily. Existing bookings move over automatically.
If you're in Vancouver and sometimes start a Europe trip from Seattle, expect a Discover plane rather than a Lufthansa one, and check the seat map before you book a business class award.
Conclusion
For Canadians, the headline is Edmonton. Northern Alberta gets a nonstop to Frankfurt (FRA), Lufthansa's main hub, and it's bookable with Aeroplan at partner chart prices with no surcharges.
My one question is the product. Discover's new cabin is still being phased in, so if business class comfort matters most to you, look at the seat map before you commit 75,000 points. If you're in Edmonton and tired of connecting through Calgary or Toronto, though, June 2027 is worth putting in the calendar.
