The Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard has some interesting features if you tend to spend a lot with Air France and KLM.
You’ll earn an extra 5 Flying Blue miles per euro spent on Air France and KLM flights, which is in addition to the miles earned from your Flying Blue status.
Aside from earning 2x Flying Blue miles at restaurants and bars and some unique insurance coverage, the card doesn’t have a very strong value proposition to justify the annual fee. It’s a good idea to weigh its benefits against what you can get with other cards that can transfer points to Flying Blue.
Bonuses & Fees
There is a welcome offer of 60 XP, which kickstarts your progress to Flying Blue status. After the first year, you’ll receive 30 XP annually.
The annual fee of $132 is waived for the first year. You can try out the card at no cost before committing for another year.
Additional cards cost $50 apiece.
This card offers a tiered rewards structure:
- Up to 30 Flying Blue miles per dollar spent at select merchant partners
- 2 Flying Blue miles per dollar spent at restaurants and bars
- 1 Flying Blue mile per dollar spent thereafter
The merchant partners range from large brands to small local businesses. You can check which vendors are eligible for bonus Flying Blue miles in the Brim app. You can read more about Brim’s individual partnerships program on their website.
If you shop a lot at partner stores, you can take advantage of special offers in the Brim app. In particular, look for Milestone Bonuses from specific vendors in the Brim Marketplace.
You can redeem Flying Blue miles for flights with Air France, KLM, and some other SkyTeam airlines. It’s easy to redeem Flying Blue miles for flights in economy, premium economy, or business class.
Flying Blue is a great program to use for flights between North America and Europe, due to its wide coverage on the both continents.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the monthly Promo Rewards, which offer reduced costs for redemptions on specific routes, sometimes including business class.
Perks & Benefits
As soon as you have been approved for the card, you can generate a virtual credit card, which you can then begin using immediately.
Also, as a World Elite Mastercard, you’ll automatically get a DragonPass membership (although without any free visits included), as well as Boingo Wi-Fi.
Unfortunately, unlike other Brim credit cards, this card has a 2.5% foreign exchange fee.
As a World Elite Mastercard, this Air France KLM card offers comprehensive insurance, with a few unique inclusions from its partner Brim Financial.
Here are a few features that make the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard stand out for its insurance coverage:
- Car rental insurance up to $65,000 MSRP
- Generous coverage for trip cancellation or trip interruption
- Flight delay and baggage delay insurance
Notably, Brim offers event ticket protector insurance, a unique policy that’s not seen on any other credit cards. If you can’t attend an event due to one of the covered reasons (such as emergency medical or common carrier accident), you’ll be reimbursed for the cost of your event tickets up to $1,000.
You’ll also get mobile device protection for loss, theft, or damage. That type of coverage is still quite uncommon, although it’s slowly showing up on more credit cards.
The card also includes purchase security insurance for items charged to your card anywhere in the world, if they get damaged or stolen within 90 days from the purchase date.
