Hilton Honors Promotion for Fall 2021: Triple Points on Paid Nights

Hilton Honors often runs many interesting promotions for its members to earn more points.

They’ve just announced their upcoming offer for travel between September 7 and December 31, 2021, and it’s even better than their summer promotion: you can earn triple points on all cash bookings made with a Hilton Honors American Express credit card.

Hilton Honors’s promotion for Fall 2021 is called “Power Up”, and it’s a powerful one:

  • Double points on paid stays
  • Triple points on paid stays when you book with a Hilton Honors co-branded credit card

You do have to activate the promotion first, but once you’ve done that, there’s no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn. You’ll get the bonus points for all stays where the checkout date falls between September 7 and December 31, 2021, inclusive.

Without a doubt, you’ll want to book with one of Hilton’s credit cards for triple points. Whether it’s the top-tier Hilton Honors Aspire Card or the no-fee entry-level Hilton Honors Card, or anything in between, any Hilton credit card is eligible for the same bonus.

(And luckily, if you don’t have any Hilton credit cards, and won’t be able to get one in time for your booking, you can still earn a lesser bonus of double points.)

Hilton Honors has many ways to increase the points you’ll earn on bookings and purchases at their properties. The double or triple points only applies to base points; unfortunately it won’t further multiply any bonus points.

With this promotion, when you book at a Hilton property with your Hilton Honors co-branded credit card, for every US dollar you spend, you’ll earn:

  • 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
  • 20 bonus points with the “Power Up” promotion
  • Bonus points for having Hilton Honors status:
    • 2 points with Silver status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Card
    • 8 points with Gold status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Surpass Card
    • 10 points with Diamond status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Aspire Card
  • Points earned for using your Hilton Honors credit card at an eligible co-branded property:
    • 7 points for using the Hilton Honors Card
    • 12 points for using the Hilton Honors Surpass Card or the Hilton Honors Business Card
    • 14 points for using the Hilton Honors Aspire Card

That works out to up to 54 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent at Hilton properties. At our current valuation of 0.5 (USD) cents per point, you could also view this as a 27% discount on the price of your stay.

Of course, not everyone has the Aspire Card – even with annual credits, it’s a steep annual fee to swallow when you consider other premium cards on the market.

Alternatively, if you have the American Express Platinum Card, and you recently took advantage of the elevated offers on the lower-tier Amex Hilton credit cards, you’ll earn:

  • 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
  • 20 bonus points with the “Power Up” promotion
  • 8 bonus points for having Hilton Honors Gold status (which you get as an Amex Platinum cardholder)
  • 12 points for using your Hilton Honors Surpass or Business Card at a co-branded property

For a total of 50 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent, that’s equivalent to a 25% discount on your stays, and it’s almost the same rate as you’d get with the Aspire Card.

Because the bonus points are based on the amount you spend, you won’t find any arbitrage opportunities – the more you spend, the more you’ll earn.

That’s among the best promotional bonuses we’ve typically seen from Hilton. If you’re looking at a weekend trip or an international getaway this fall, this promotion might tip the scales towards booking with Hilton.

With returns of up to 27% via this promotion, I’d say this is a great opportunity to make a cash booking for an upcoming trip, and save your hard-earned points for a future award redemption when the active promotions aren’t as favourable.

That would certainly be a better choice if you’re working towards an aspirational Hilton redemption with a high points cost, especially since Hilton Honors points aren’t as easy to come by as other hotel rewards from a Canadian perspective.

Last Chance for More Nights, More Points

If you have a hotel booking before the new promotion kicks in on September 7, you can still take advantage of the tail end of the current “More Nights, More Points” promotion, valid for all stays ending on or before September 6.

The new Power Up promotion is like an enhanced version of the old More Nights, More Points promotion. Until September 6, you’ll only earn double points on one- or two-night stays, no matter which credit card you use.

Going forward for the rest of the year, however, you’ll earn triple nights even on those short stays, provided you have and use a Hilton Honors credit card – which isn’t a tough task, since they have a no-fee card which is worth considering for your first US credit card as a Canadian.

Therefore, I’d consider the new promotion to be a big improvement. But if you do have a stay coming up before the current one ends, don’t forget to make the most of it.

Hilton Honors is running a fall promotion for up to triple points on paid stays when you book with a Hilton co-branded credit card, or double points when you book with any other card.

You can register now to activate the promotion, and it’ll be valid for stays from September 7 to December 31, 2021.

This ranks among one of the best promotions that Hilton has offered historically, and I’ll definitely consider it as I eye some quick trips this fall.

Meanwhile, if you have a last-minute long weekend getaway planned for Labour Day, make sure you register for the current promotion to earn extra points, ending on September 6, 2021.

The big question is when are we going to see a Hilton credit card in Canada?
