Hilton Honors Promotion for Summer 2022: Triple Points on Paid Nights

Hilton Honors often runs many interesting promotions for its members to earn more points.

They’ve just announced their upcoming offer for travel between May 2 and September 5, 2022, a return of a longstanding favourite: you can earn double points on all stays, and triple points on stays of three nights or more.

Register Now for “More Nights, More Points”

Hilton Honors’s promotion for Summer 2022 is called “More Nights, More Points”, and it’s a powerful one:

  • Double points on paid stays
  • Triple points on paid stays of three nights or more

You do have to activate the promotion first, but once you’ve done that, there’s no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn. You’ll get the bonus points for all stays where the checkout date falls between May 2 and September 5, 2022, inclusive.

It’s worth noting that this promotion isn’t quite as strong as a few other triple-points promotions we’ve seen recently, given the requirement to stay at least three nights. If your stays are only for one or two nights, you’ll only earn a lesser bonus of double points.

Hilton Honors has many ways to increase the points you’ll earn on bookings and purchases at their properties. The double or triple points only applies to base points; unfortunately it won’t further multiply any bonus points.

With this promotion, if you book at a Hilton property for three nights or more, for every US dollar you spend, you’ll earn:

  • 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
  • 20 bonus points with the “More Nights, More Points” promotion
  • Bonus points for having Hilton Honors elite status:
    • 2 points with Silver status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Card
    • 8 points with Gold status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Surpass Card
    • 10 points with Diamond status, which you get with the Hilton Honors Aspire Card
  • Points earned for using your Hilton Honors credit card at an eligible co-branded property:
    • 7 points for using the Hilton Honors Card
    • 12 points for using the Hilton Honors Surpass Card or the Hilton Honors Business Card
    • 14 points for using the Hilton Honors Aspire Card

That works out to up to 54 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent at Hilton properties. At our current valuation of 0.5 (USD) cents per point, you could also view this as a 27% discount on the price of your stay.

Of course, not everyone has the Aspire Card – even with annual credits, it’s a steep annual fee to swallow when you consider other premium cards on the market.

Alternatively, if you have the Canadian-issued American Express Platinum Card, and you recently took advantage of the elevated offers on the lower-tier Amex US Hilton credit cards, you’ll earn:

  • 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
  • 20 bonus points with the “More Nights, More Points” promotion
  • 8 bonus points for having Hilton Honors Gold status (which you get as an Amex Platinum cardholder)
  • 12 points for using your Hilton Honors Surpass or Business Card at a co-branded property

For a total of 50 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent, that’s equivalent to a 25% discount on your stays, and it’s almost the same rate as you’d get with the Aspire Card.

Because the bonus points are based on the amount you spend, you won’t find any arbitrage opportunities – the more you spend, the more you’ll earn.

That’s among the best promotional bonuses we’ve typically seen from Hilton. If you’re looking at a long weekend trip or an international getaway this summer, this promotion might tip the scales towards booking with Hilton.

With returns of up to 27% via this promotion, I’d say this is a great opportunity to make a cash booking for an upcoming trip, and save your hard-earned Hilton points for a future award redemption when the active promotions aren’t as favourable.

That would certainly be a better choice if you’re working towards an aspirational Hilton redemption with a high points cost, especially since Hilton Honors points aren’t as easy to come by as other hotel rewards from a Canadian perspective.

Last Chance for Points Unlimited

If you have a hotel booking before the new promotion kicks in on May 2, you can still take advantage of the tail end of the current “Points Unlimited” promotion, valid for all stays ending on or before May 1.

Points Unlimited is a relatively weak promotion, offering only 2,500 bonus Hilton Honors points for every stay you make.

Under our Points Valuations, that’s equivalent to a rebate of US$12.50 for every stay. That can be a meaningful return on cheap one-night stays or award redemptions, but it gets less exciting the more expensive your stay is.

Therefore, I’d consider the new Summer 2022 promotion to be a big improvement. But if you do have a stay coming up before the current promotion ends, don’t forget to register and make the most of it.

Conclusion

Hilton Honors is running a summer promotion for up to triple points on paid stays of three nights or more, or double points on paid stays of one or two nights.

You can register now to activate the promotion, and it’ll be valid for stays from May 2 to September 5, 2022.

This ranks among one of the better promotions that we’ve seen from Hilton historically, and I’ll definitely consider it as I eye some quick trips this summer.

Meanwhile, if you have a Hilton stay planned before May 2, make sure you register for the current promotion to earn a bonus 2,500 points.

The big question is when are we going to see a Hilton credit card in Canada?
