In January 2024, Porter Airlines began service on routes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

This week, Porter Airlines announced that it will launch seasonal flights from Montreal (YUL) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), beginning in June 2024.

Porter Airlines has announced that it will launch new routes from Montreal (YUL) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

Service to Los Angeles is slated to begin on June 27, 2024, while service to San Francisco is set to begin just a day later, on June 28, 2024. Both routes will end the seasonal service on October 26, 2024.

Porter Airlines will offer four flights per week to Los Angeles, with westbound flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and eastbound service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The flight times for this city pairing are as follows:

  • PD667 Montreal (YUL) to Los Angeles (LAX), departing 7:40pm and arriving 10:36pm
  • PD668 Los Angeles (LAX) to Montreal (YUL), departing 6:15am and arriving 2:40pm

Porter’s fourth route to California is set to begin with the debut of flights from Montreal (YUL) to San Francisco (SFO).

Porter is offering thrice-weekly service, with westbound flights from Montreal on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and eastbound service to Montreal on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The flight times for this city pairing are as follows:

  • PD673 Montreal (YUL) to San Francisco (SFO), departing 8pm and arriving 11:12pm
  • PD674 San Francisco (SFO) to Montreal (YUL), departing 6:15am and arriving 2:40pm

Both routes will be served by Porter’s growing fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets, which offer an all-economy cabin in a 2-2 configuration with no middle seats.

The flights are loaded into Porter’s schedule, and can be booked with cash or VIPorter points.

Booking Porter’s New Montreal–California Routes

On both routes, Porter Airlines will compete with Air Canada, which offers multiple flights per day to both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Introductory pricing on the Montreal–Los Angeles route runs at around $320 (CAD) westbound and around $250 (CAD) eastbound on a Basic fare.

Meanwhile, introductory pricing on the Montreal–San Francisco route also comes in at around $320 (CAD) westbound and $250 (CAD) eastbound on a Basic fare.

A quick glance at Google Flights suggests that these prices are competitive with what Air Canada charges, and typically less.

If you have a stash of VIPorter points, pricing begins at 12,500 points per direction, plus around $120 (CAD) in taxes and fees

At present, VIPorter points can only be earned through paid flights with Porter. However, Porter Airlines has indicated that they’re working on a co-branded credit card in Canada, although there haven’t been any announcements about timelines just yet.

Once that happens, redemptions with VIPorter points will become much more accessible, and with the airline’s growing network, it’ll certainly be worth considering when planning your travels within North America.

Conclusion

Porter Airlines has announced that it will launch two new routes from Montreal (YUL) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) in June 2024.

These routes join the two existing routes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to California, which began service in January 2024.

As Porter continues to take delivery of its fleet of new jets, it’s likely not long until we’ll hear another route announcement.
