Link Blue Rewards and VIPorter to Earn Bonus Points

Blue Rewards and Porter Airlines have launched a new partnership, naming Porter the preferred airline partner of Blue Rewards as of September 24, 2026. Link your Blue Rewards and VIPorter accounts, and you'll earn extra VIPorter points on Porter flights, plus bonus Blue Points when you redeem for Porter flights through Blue Rewards Travel.

Linking also comes with a small welcome offer of 500 points in each program. In the coming months, you'll be able to convert Blue Points into VIPorter points at a 2:1 ratio.

For most people, the earning boost is a nice extra. The real story is that Blue Rewards finally has a direct path into an airline program, and I'll walk through what each piece is worth below.

How the Blue Rewards and VIPorter Link Works

The partnership builds on the relationship between BMO and Porter that started with the BMO VIPorter credit cards in 2025. BMO owns Blue Rewards, which replaced AIR MILES earlier this year, so this ties together two programs that already shared a bank.

Once your accounts are linked, there are four benefits to know about.

• Welcome offer: 500 VIPorter points for linking your accounts, plus 500 Blue Points once you earn your first Blue Point after linking
• Extra VIPorter points on Porter purchases: an additional 1 VIPorter point per dollar on the base fare and add-on services if you hold a BMO credit card or debit card, or half a point per dollar if you don’t, on top of your base earn
• Bonus Blue Points on Porter redemptions: up to 7,500 bonus Blue Points when you use Blue Points to book Porter flights through Blue Rewards Travel
• Points conversion (coming soon): convert Blue Points into VIPorter points at 2:1

The terms settle an important detail. You don't need a BMO VIPorter card for the higher earn rate. Anyone who holds a BMO-issued credit card or debit card qualifies, so a BMO chequing account on its own is enough.

You can link from either side. On Blue Rewards, sign in and go to Earn, then Explore Partners, then Linked partners and programs, and select Link Program on the Porter tile. On Porter’s website, the VIPorter and Blue Rewards page has a Link Accounts button that starts the same process.

A few timing details are worth knowing. The 500 VIPorter points post within 48 hours of linking, but the 500 Blue Points only arrive once you've earned at least one Blue Point at a partner after linking. The extra VIPorter points on flights post within 48 hours of completing your trip, rounded down to the nearest whole point. The welcome bonus is limited to once per member.

Earning VIPorter Points Up to 20% Faster

VIPorter members earn 5–7 points per dollar on Porter fares, excluding taxes and fees, depending on status. Linking adds a flat 1 point per dollar if you have a BMO card, which is where the "up to 20% faster" headline comes from. The full 20% applies at the base Member tier, and elites see a smaller percentage boost because they already earn more.

On a $300 base fare, that's an extra 300 VIPorter points if you have a BMO card, or 150 points if you don't. At our valuation of 1.5 cents per VIPorter point, that works out to roughly $4.50 or $2.25 per trip.

It isn't going to change where you fly, but it adds up for anyone who already books Porter. Since linking takes a few minutes and pays 500 points in each program on its own, there's no reason not to do it.

Bonus Blue Points When You Redeem for Porter Flights

The redemption side works in the other direction. When you use Blue Points to book an eligible Porter flight through Blue Rewards Travel, which is powered by Expedia, you'll earn bonus Blue Points back based on the booking value.

The jumps between tiers are steep. A $450 booking earns 3,750 bonus points, while one just over $451 earns 7,500, so if your fare is sitting just under a threshold, adding a seat or a return leg to the same booking could double the bonus.

There's also a limited-time boost. Until November 30, 2026, members with an eligible BMO payment card can earn up to 1,500 additional bonus Blue Points on a Porter redemption through Blue Rewards Travel.

The 2:1 Conversion Is the Part to Watch

The piece that could matter most hasn't launched yet. Blue Rewards says linked members will be able to convert Blue Points into VIPorter points at a 2:1 ratio "in the coming months," without giving a date.

Using that example, 1,500 Blue Points are worth $10 at the gift card benchmark, while 750 VIPorter points are worth about $11.25 at our valuation of 1.5 cents per point. Converting would come out roughly 12% ahead of cashing out for gift cards, as long as you’re redeeming for a Porter flight you actually want.

That's not a dramatic premium, and the VIPorter side only pays off if you fly Porter. Still, until now, Blue Rewards has been a purely fixed-value program, and a conversion into an airline currency with partner redemptions on Air Transat and Alaska Airlines gives Blue Points a new outlet.

It’s tempting to run the math on the BMO Blue Rewards World Elite^®* Mastercard^®* here. Its 10x rate would convert to 5 VIPorter points per dollar, but that rate only applies at participating Blue Rewards partners. On groceries and gas, the card earns 2x, which works out to 1 VIPorter point per dollar after conversion.

I'll be watching for two details once conversions go live, namely whether there's a minimum conversion amount and whether Porter or Blue Rewards run conversion bonuses the way transfer partners elsewhere do.

Which Card Makes the Most of It?

You don’t need either card for the higher linked earn rate on Porter flights, since any BMO credit or debit card counts. The cards matter for what you earn on everything else.

Conclusion

Linking your Blue Rewards and VIPorter accounts is an easy win. It takes a few minutes, pays 500 points in each program, and earns you a little more on every Porter flight from here on, especially if you already bank with BMO.

The redemption bonuses are worth planning around if you already book Porter with Blue Points, especially on bookings that land just over $451. The bigger question is the 2:1 conversion. If it launches without a high minimum, Blue Rewards stops being just a gift card program and becomes a genuine feeder into VIPorter, and that would be the most useful thing to happen to Blue Points since the rebrand.
