What Is GHA DISCOVERY?
GHA Discovery is the loyalty program of Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), a network of over 40 upscale and luxury hotel brands operating in more than 100 countries.
While it may not be as widely recognized in Canada as programs like Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors, it offers moderate value, especially if you’re interested in boutique and independent-style luxury stays.
Some of the key brands under GHA include:

- Capella
- Kempinski
- Pan Pacific
Rather than collecting points, members earn DISCOVERY Dollars (D$), which are worth exactly $1 USD per 1 D$ and can be applied to eligible hotel charges, including room nights, spa services, and dining. D$ can only be used on direct bookings and don’t apply to OTA rates.

Buy GHA DISCOVERY D$ at a 15% discount
Between May 29 and June 19, 2025, GHA members can purchase D$ at a rate of $0.85 per D$, representing a 15% savings on future eligible charges.
Each transaction must be at least D$10 and no more than D$2,000, with a maximum of three transactions per day and an annual limit of D$5,000 per member.
D$ are deposited to your account usually instantly, though it may take up to two business days. D$ are valid for 24 months from the transaction date, and are non-refundable.
How Do GHA DISCOVERY D$ Work?
GHA Discovery Dollars (D$) function as a fixed-value rewards currency, where 1 D$ = $1 USD. They can be redeemed at GHA properties worldwide for stays, spa treatments, dining, and other eligible expenses.
In my experience, the conversion rate used by the front desk has generally aligned closely with the spot rate, though it may vary slightly depending on the property.
However, there are a few limitations to be aware of.
D$ cannot be used toward taxes or service fees, only the base rate and eligible extras.
You’ll also only earn D$ on the post-redemption portion of your bill. So if you pay entirely with D$, you won’t earn any more back on that stay.
Redemption value is fixed, so there’s no opportunity for outsized value like with traditional airline or hotel points.
However, the upside is that earning and redeeming D$ is refreshingly straightforward. There’s no need to worry about dynamic pricing, blackout dates, or award charts.
You must book directly through GHA’s official site or a participating hotel brand to redeem D$. Some brands allow D$ to be applied during checkout online, and if this option is available, it’ll appear before payment.
For all others, D$ must be redeemed at the hotel during check-in or checkout, typically on pay-at-hotel rates, which are often more expensive and less flexible.
If you’re aiming to use D$ on a prepaid rate, be aware that many hotels don’t actually charge your card until arrival.
In these cases, we recommend contacting the hotel in advance to confirm whether D$ can be applied manually, and how to proceed.
Redemptions require a minimum of D$10, and if the reservation is cancelled and refundable, the D$ will be returned to your account—unless they’ve expired.
Triple D$ and Instant Gold Status Still Available
Running concurrently with the D$ discount is another valuable promotion. Until June 30, 2025, you can:
- Register for instant Gold status
- Earn Triple D$ (up to 15% back) on eligible stays
- Receive an extra D$5 per stay when booking through the GHA app
The promotion is valid at all properties under the Pan Pacific Hotels Group, including Pan Pacific, PARKROYAL, and PARKROYAL COLLECTION hotels and serviced suites.
There’s no minimum stay, no minimum spend, and no cap on how many stays qualify.
What Does GHA Elite Status Offer?
Gold status, which is granted instantly with the ongoing promotion, earns you 5% back in D$, access to member-only rates and experiences, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Some of these experiences include complimentary access to hotel amenities, which can be especially useful if you live nearby and are looking to enjoy day-use access to the facilities.
For more frequent guests, Titanium status offers a meaningful upgrade. As of late 2024, Titanium members enjoy complimentary breakfast for two at Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL properties, in addition to room upgrades, early check-in/late checkout, and a higher earn rate of 7% back in D$.
These perks make Titanium status a worthy goal, especially in Asia-Pacific where GHA’s footprint is the strongest.
Where Can You Redeem D$ in Canada?
GHA has four properties in Canada, all under the Pan Pacific Hotels Group:

Which Credit Card Should You Use?
Since D$ are sold through Points.com, the purchase won’t code as travel or hotel spend, and Canadian residents will be charged GST/HST on top of the USD transaction.
As with other points purchases, using a US credit card is ideal as it avoids foreign transaction fees and the Canadian tax.
If you must use a Canadian card, choose one with no foreign transaction fees to minimize the cost. Ideally, use a card with a strong base earn rate or one you’re using to meet a minimum spending requirement.
