Amex US Bonvoy Brilliant: Up to 40,000 Points for Adding Authorized Users

A new targeted offer has appeared on the American Express US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card, with which you can earn up to 40,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points.

This time around, you’ll need to add up to four authorized users to your account, and have them each complete a minimum spending requirement to earn the extra points.

Luckily, there’s no fee for adding authorized users, and the spending requirement is well within reach and spread out over a long period of time.

Amex US Bonvoy Brilliant: Up to 40,000 Points for Adding Authorized Users

A new targeted offer has appeared on the American Express US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card

With the offer, you’ll earn 10,000 Bonvoy points for each authorized user that spends $1,000 (all figures in USD) within six months of being added to the account, up to a maximum of four authorized users.

Therefore, the total amount you can earn with this offer is 40,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, as long as each of the four authorized users charges $1,000 to the card within six months of being added.

If you were targeted, you should’ve received an email from Marriott Bonvoy outlining the details of the promotion. However, even if you didn’t get the email, you should be able to access the promotion through this link.

It’s important to note that adding authorized users on the American Express US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card is free, which means that this promotion fits squarely in the low-hanging fruit category.

You have until November 30, 2023 to add new authorized users, and the six-month spending window only starts after they’ve been added to the account.

If you plan on taking advantage of this offer, it’s best to add your first user sooner rather than later, thereby spreading out the window to meet the total minimum spending requirement over a longer period of time.

How to Maximize the Brilliant Bonus Points Targeted Offer

Whenever an offer like this comes around, it’s worth considering how you can maximize it.

The American Express US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card is a powerful card on its own, with the following earning rates:

  • 6 Bonvoy points per dollar spent at Marriott properties
  • 3 Bonvoy points per dollar spent at restaurants worldwide
  • 3 Bonvoy points per dollar spent on flights
  • 2 Bonvoy points per dollar spent on everything else

The card also comes with no foreign transaction fees, which makes it a great option to pay for hotels outside the United States, as well as a host of other benefits.

If you’re able to time any Marriott Bonvoy hotel bookings, airfare, or dining expenses with this offer, you’ll stand to maximize the amount of Bonvoy points you can earn.

For example, if you were to charge $1,000 to each of the four authorized users’ cards at Marriott hotels, you’d be on track to earn a total of 64,000 Bonvoy points.

If you were to spend it all on dining and flights instead, you’d earn a total of 52,000 Bonvoy points for your efforts.

Even at the base earn rate of 2 Bonvoy points per dollar spent, you’d end up with a total of 48,000 Bonvoy points.

We currently value Bonvoy points at 0.6 cents per point (USD).

Using this valuation, the minimum value earned in points with each authorized user is $72, and the maximum value is $288.

However, it’s certainly possible to net a higher return by strategically booking higher-end hotels that offer an outsized value from points compared to the cash rate.

For example, 40,000 Bonvoy points is just about enough for one night at Le Méridien Maldives on a PointSavers rate, where the equivalent cash rate is $475.

Conclusion

Marriott Bonvoy has launched a promotion on its flagship American Express US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card.

Eligible cardholders can earn up to 40,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points for adding authorized users to their account, and having them each complete a minimum spending requirement over six months.

The promotion runs until November 30, 2023, which means that there’s plenty of time to register for and complete the promotion. If you don’t yet have the card, there should also be more than enough time to sign up and fulfill the requirements for the promotion.

Would having AU card count towards Chase 5/24 rule?
