The Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard is the sole Air France KLM co-branded credit card available in Canada. This card is great for anyone who's loyal to the Air France KLM Flying Blue loyalty program, with an unmatched return on Air France and KLM flights.

Bonuses & Fees

As the welcome bonus, you'll also get 60 XP points in the first year, which fast-track your way to earning Flying Blue Elite status. Then, you'll earn 30 XP points as an ongoing annual benefit to help boost your status in subsequent years.

As a reminder, XP points are what Flying Blue uses to determine your status with the program.

The card's annual fee is $132, and additional cards cost $50 apiece. The first-year annual fee is waived as part of the current offer.

Earning Rewards

The Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard offers a tiered rewards structure, with earning rates as follows:

  • Up to 30 Flying Blue miles per dollar spent at select Brim Financial merchant partners
  • 5 bonus Flying Blue miles per euro spent on Air France/KLM flights
  • 2 Flying Blue miles per dollar spent at restaurants and bars
  • 1 Flying Blue mile per dollar spent thereafter
The Brim Financial merchant partners range from large brands to small local businesses. You can check which vendors are eligible for bonus Flying Blue miles in the Brim app, and you can read more about Brim's individual partnerships program on their website. Be sure to keep an eye out for Milestone Bonuses from specific vendors in the Brim Marketplace. If you tend to purchase revenue flights with Air France or KLM, this card offers an unmatched earning rate, which is only elevated further with Flying Blue Elite status. As for purchases at restaurants and bars, the earning rate is competitive with other airline co-branded credit cards in Canada.

Redeeming Rewards

You can redeem Flying Blue Miles for flights with Air France, KLM, and other SkyTeam airlines. It's easy to redeem Flying Blue miles for flights in economy, premium economy, or business class. Flying Blue is a great program to use for flights between North America and Europe, due to its wide coverage on both continents. Be sure to keep an eye out for the monthly Promo Rewards, which offer reduced costs for redemptions on specific routes, sometimes including business class.

Perks & Benefits

As soon as you have been approved for the card, you can generate a virtual credit card, which you can then begin using immediately. As a World Elite Mastercard, you'll automatically get a complimentary DragonPass membership (although, this comes without any free visits included). You'd also get 30 XP yearly upon renewal to help you progress towards Flying Blue status; however, it's important to note that you'll still need to do a good amount of flying to reach the lowest tier of Silver going forward, which requires 100 XP. Unfortunately, unlike other Brim credit cards, this card has a 2.5% foreign exchange fee.

Insurance Coverage

As a World Elite Mastercard, this Air France KLM card offers comprehensive insurance, with a few unique inclusions from its partner Brim Financial. Here are a few features that make the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard stand out for its insurance coverage:

  • Car rental insurance up to a MSRP of $85,000
  • Generous coverage for trip cancellation or trip interruption of up to $2,000 and $5,000 respectively
  • Flight delay and baggage delay insurance of up to $500 and $1,000 respectively
Notably, Brim offers event ticket protector insurance, a unique policy that's not seen on any other credit cards. If you can't attend an event due to one of the covered reasons (such as emergency medical or common carrier accident), you'll be reimbursed for the cost of your event tickets up to $1,000. You'll also get mobile device protection for loss, theft, or damage of a new phone or tablet for up to $1,500 for two years. The card also includes purchase security insurance for items charged to your card anywhere in the world, if they get damaged or stolen within 90 days from the purchase date. In addition, you'd also get extended warranty doubling the manufacturer's warranty of up to one year.
