Video: All About the Amex Bonvoy Cards

The personal and business Amex Marriott Bonvoy cards are easily the best cards for Canadians looking to earn hotel points to maximize free nights and status benefits.

With a lucrative signup bonus in the region of 50,000 Bonvoy points, 15 elite qualifying nights (with Instant Silver Elite status) just for holding the card, and an anniversary free night certificate worth up to 35,000 points, there’s a lot to love about this card. So much to love, in fact, that you may even consider going for the US equivalents as well to top-up your Bonvoy points even more!

In this week’s video (filmed on-location at the W Verbier), we’ll talk about everything you need to know about the Amex Marriott Bonvoy credit cards to help you decide if it’s the right card for you. As long as you plan to stay at a Marriott hotel once or twice a year, chances are that it’ll be a great fit.

Is it worth it to get a marriot bonvoy card before the amex cobalt if you’re planning to transfer MR. Select points for hotel redemptions?

    Hi Ricky,

I have signed up for AMEX SPG and Business spg in the past, would you know if I can still get the sign up bonus with the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy? I’m from Canada.

    Thanks

      It’s worth a shot!

The Business version of the Marriott Bonvoy card pays 3 point per dollar on gas, dining and travel (excluding non-Marriott hotels). This can sometimes be more than enough to cover the additional $30 in annual fee ($150 vs. $120).

One fyi note….your points received for spend in Canadian dollars on Canadian Marriott Cards can be used as points for any hotels priced in US funds, with no exchange rate conversion, a 35% bonus. Spend on US cards, in US dollars, earns you the same number of points.

My goal has always been “find the best category 5 you can” as I’ve often found they can be both quite comfortable and reasonable in terms of points. If you are vigilant, you can find great places. In fact, these are some of the cat 5 hotels that I got for 35k, but moved UP to cat 6 after my stay.

Back in 2018, when Gold status gave you free breakfast, my family & I stayed at the New York Palace Budapest and all six of us ate in their famous cafe each morning.
