WestJet has just announced the upcoming 2024 launch of its Calgary to Seoul route.

The addition of a Seoul route will build on WestJet’s burgeoning transpacific offerings, with the airline’s first flights to Tokyo having just started in April 2023.

WestJet’s New Calgary–Seoul Route

Beginning May 17, 2024, WestJet will operate thrice-weekly service from Calgary to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.

The flight times, pending regulatory approval, are currently blocked as:

  • Calgary (YYC) to Seoul (ICN), departing at 5:55pm and arriving at 8:45pm the next day
  • Seoul (ICN) to Calgary (YYC), departing at 10:45pm and arriving at 6:15pm same day

The route will be served by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with business class, premium economy, and economy cabins. The WestJet Dreamliner is notable for having a particularly premium-light configuration, with only 16 seats in business class.

The flights are not yet loaded into WestJet’s search engine, but the airline states that it expects them to be bookable beginning in early 2024.

WestJet’s Ever-Expanding International Network

The introduction of WestJet’s new route between Calgary and Seoul adds to the airline’s growing network of overseas flights.

This development brings the airline’s total number of overseas routes up to eight, with Seoul being the airline’s second transpacific route.

The route between Calgary and Tokyo is expected to expand to daily service beginning in Summer 2024, suggesting that its first season was a success.

In addition to its two transpacific routes, WestJet also flies to eight airports in Europe, including Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh, and London, and has also been increasing the number of flights servicing these destinations.

It’s exciting to see WestJet continue to build its overseas network, helping connect Calgary and the rest of Western Canada with further-flung locales. One can only hope that WestJet takes steps to strengthen the WestJet Rewards loyalty program so that these route announcements are even more exciting from a frequent flyer’s perspective.

Conclusion

WestJet has announced the introduction of its second transpacific route with thrice-weekly flights between Calgary and Seoul beginning in May 2024.

The addition of this new route is an exciting next piece in WestJet’s growing overseas network, and represents another international direct flight option out of Calgary.

Flights on the new Seoul route are not yet on sale, but you can expect to see them go live in early 2024. Calgarians – look out for this launch and for what’s sure to be even more route announcements from WestJet in the future.
