Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards have expanded their partnership to allow reciprocal points transfers between the two programs.

Beginning September 9, 2024, members of both programs can transfer points at a ratio of 10:8, opening up new possibilities for members in either program.

Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards Introduce Reciprocal Points Transfers

Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards have expanded their partnership with the introduction of a two-way points transfer.

Whether you’re going from your Marriott Bonvoy program to your MGM Rewards account or vice versa, members of both loyalty programs can now transfer at a ratio of 10:8 and start redeeming immediately.

Members must convert a minimum of 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to MGM Rewards points (or 1,000 MGM Rewards Points to Marriott Bonvoy points) per transaction, with an annual cap of 30,000 points.

To initiate a transfer, you’ll need to make sure both accounts are linked, and then you can proceed with the transfer from the Marriott Bonvoy or MGM Rewards points transfer platforms.

We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.6 cents per point (USD). You can certainly redeem them for more or less value depending on the redemption, but this is the target valuation that we suggest aiming for.

Meanwhile, MGM Rewards points can be redeemed against MGM expenses at fixed rate of 1 cent per point (USD). You can choose to redeem them for hotel stays, food and beverage credits, entertainment venues, and more.

Therefore, if you choose to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to MGM Rewards, you’re guaranteed to get a return of 0.8 cents per point (USD), which is slightly higher than our valuation.

Again, it’s worth noting that you can redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for much higher value if used strategically, and it’s likely not worth speculatively transferring points unless you have an immediate use in mind.

Likewise, you’ll want to ensure you’ll get outsized value from a transfer from MGM Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy prior to moving points in this direction.

Conclusion

Marriott Bonvoy and MGM have expanded their partnership allowing members of both reward programs to transfer points. Effective immediately, Marriott Bonvoy and MGM reward members can transfer points at a rate of 10:8.

Members must convert at least 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or MGM Rewards points per transaction with an annual transfer cap of 30,000 points.

Members must have active online accounts in both the MGM Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy programs in order to link their accounts and take advantage of this partnership.
