British Airways has announced big changes are coming to its loyalty program in 2025 starting with its name. As of April 1, 2025, the British Airways Executive Club will become simply “The British Airways Club”, and will offer new ways for members to earn Tier Points but make it more expensive to earn elite status.
British Airways Announces New Loyalty Program for 2025
Introducing The British Airways Club, the newly named loyalty program the airline says will give members more ways than ever to earn Tier Points.
As part of a re-brand of its loyalty program, British Airways has unveiled a number of changes with new ways for members to earn Tier Points, including for spending on co-branded credit cards, and when paying for extras such as seat selection and additional baggage.
British Airways says the new loyalty program, which takes effect April 1, 2025, will include a new Tier Point system when flying.
Members will earn Tier Points based on the cost of their flight and, for the first time, for ancillary spending including seat selection and extra baggage.
In addition to earning 1 Tier Point for every £1 of eligible spending, members will be able to earn up to 1,000 Tier Points per year by contributing to sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). You’ll earn one Tier Point and 10 Avios per £1 spent on these purchases.
British Airways Vacation Packages will also count towards status based on the cost of the package, with no limit to Tier Points earned, at a ratio of 1 Tier Point per £10 spent.
The airline says customers with existing bookings for travel after April 1, 2025, will be awarded Tier Points based on a conversion of the existing method and any existing bookings will earn proportionally the same number of Tier Points, or more, as they would today.
Status qualification requirements will also see some changes under the new British Airways Club loyalty program including the following:
- 3,500 Tier Points for The British Airways Club Bronze status
- 7,500 Tier Points for The British Airways Club Silver status
- 20,000 Tier Points for The British Airways Club Gold status
Additionally, the British Airways Club Gold Guest List status will require 65,000 Tier Points, with at least 52,000 earned through British Airways marketed flights, qualifying add-ons, and British Airways Holidays packages, and 40,000 to retain (with at least 32,000 earned through British Airways-marketed flights, qualifying add-ons and British Airways Holiday packages).
Also coming in 2025, but with no set date, members with the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card will be able to earn Tier Points on credit card spending.
We’ll also see the introduction of new milestone benefits between Tiers. Members will be able to unlock reward benefits before reaching their next level starting with gifts of 2,500, 4,000 and 5,000 Bonus Avios at milestones within Bronze and Silver. The airline says additional benefits will be announced in the coming months.
In announcing the revamped loyalty program, British Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer Colm Lacy says:
“The changes we have announced today underline our continued investment in our loyalty programme and in our customers. Based on our Members’ feedback, we’ve built on the changes we’ve already made – including how customers collect Avios and their membership year – in a way that we believe better rewards their loyalty and reflects their changing travel needs. While we have announced a number of positive changes today, I particularly wanted to highlight better rewarding our customers who book through British Airways Holidays and making this a permanent part of our proposition, removing the limit on earning. We know that many of our customers make their holiday plans during our annual January sale period, so it’s great to be able to announce this today.”
