In Step 2, how did you search the same flight but with a different airline? I’m looking to fly from YVR to LHR from June 8 to June 22, but I only get the Air Canada flights with about a $800 surcharge. How do I see how much other flights will cost me even if there is a layover?

Aeroplan’s search engine prioritizes Air Canada flights, since they want you to incur the fuel surcharges. You’d have to search segment by segment to/from the layover cities – for example, YVR–EWR and then EWR–LHR if you want to look for United, or YVR–YYZ and then YYZ–BRU and then BRU–LHR if you were looking for Brussels Airlines, or YVR–YUL and then YUL–ZRH and then ZRH–LHR if you were looking for Swiss, etc.
