Great list but surprised to see Fairmont Banff Springs. We’ve personally tried all 3 Fairmont Properties in Alberta – Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. Jasper and Louise properties take the cake. I would rate Banff Fairmont below Holiday Inn. Their staff is rude and disorganized, food sucks. Sorry but it’s true!

I had the pleasure to stay at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City, and the building is quite fascinating. I highly recommend coming to Quebec City in late November – early December, when it’s not too cold yet, but Christmas decorations are up in Petit Champlain and of course, the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. The rooms are a bit old, but everything else was great.

Fairmont Lake Louise & Jasper Park Lodge belong in that list…

Excellent list, hopefully you will keep expanding it.
Speaking of JW, Did you stay at the JW at Muskoka?
Since you mentioned Westin Whistler, have you stayed at Westin Blue mountain and Mt Tremblent ?

If you want to take the Banff Springs to the next level visit around Christmas. It becomes completely decked out in Christmas trees and they hold carol singing on Christmas Eve (among many other activities). Also the outdoor pool is dynamite in the winter!

Go to Fogo. Just do it. Don’t think too much about it. Indescribable.

  7. Alice

Agree with Matt Byers comments, NP is lame.

Ricky, love the list. Have a few of those on my list as well. Did you find Fogo through National Geographic? Loved that it made your list, it means your luxury taste is evolving ;P

NP, why don’t you keep you pathetic comments to yourself and get lost. You sound like a jealous child.

If anyone is lame it is you. Jeez.

    This motivated me a lot.
Love to see more Canadian stuff like this!

This list blows and obviously comes from someone who knows nothing about luxury travel…the Andaz Toronto and Ottawa? Are you serious? No mention of Churchill Wild in Manitoba, Nimmo Bay in BC, Drake Devnonshire in PEI or the Algonquin in New Brunswick?

and the only way you’re hoping to experience these is to keep on scamming credit cards? wow….kinda lame

Keep on racking up those Marriott referral points buddy….your fake luxury life needs to continue

I just came here because I love reading Ricky’s articles 😉

Love the properties on this list. Any tips for earning the one million MR Select points I’d need to spend five days at the Fogo Island Inn? ????

Great list! I think we have a lot of the same hotels on our bucket list. Any particular reason you chose Fairmont Banff over Fairmont Lake Louise or have you already stayed at Fairmont LL?

Looking forward to the reviews of these!

Hi Ricky, a few thoughts. I think the Fairmont Empress in Victoria is way past it’s prime. If you like the whole old world charm I get it, but this hotel has been relying on its perceived reputation/distinction for far too long. Aside from the old world legacy luxury kind of thing, it is an utterly massive hotel with mediocre looking rooms. The location is indeed solid, though.

I stayed at the Douglas last year, and it was excellent, so next time you’re in town I would say go for it. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite and it was massive. The proper suites look really good. I am also a big fan of Aesop products, which the hotel stocks in the bathrooms. The vibe and design is also a very tasteful nod to our pacific northwest lifestyle/culture. Depending on the time of year rates can be very reasonable and they often run generous promotions like the "Play at Parq" where the room rate is bumped up a bit more than the standard, but provides a $100 per day property credit.

Great article. Looking forward to the Fogo Island Inn review whenever you can make it happen! Cheers.
