Air Canada has announced the upcoming launch of two routes to Stockholm from Toronto and Montreal, with service set to begin in June 2024 from both cities.
The airline will also increase capacity on its routes to Copenhagen from Montreal and Toronto, beginning next spring.
Air Canada’s Montreal–Stockholm Route
Air Canada’s route between Montreal and Stockholm will commence on June 14, 2024.
At the outset, it will operate thrice weekly, with eastbound flights to Stockholm on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, and westbound flights from Stockholm on Wednesday, Saturday, and Monday.
The flight from Montreal is set to run just over seven hours, while the flight from Stockholm is clocked at just under eight eights.
The flight times are as follows:
- AC802 Montreal (YUL) to Stockholm (ARN), departing 6pm and arriving 7:05am the next day
- AC803 Stockholm (ARN) to Montreal (YUL), departing 12:15pm and arriving 2:05pm
Air Canada reports that the flight times are designed to allow for easy connections from points across North America.
The route will be served by Air Canada’s flagship Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The three-class aircraft offers Signature Class, premium economy, and economy cabins.
The flights are already loaded and bookable through Air Canada’s sales channels, including the Air Canada website and the Aeroplan search engine.
Air Canada’s Toronto–Stockholm Route
Air Canada’s route between Toronto and Stockholm will commence on June 12, 2024.
It’s set to operate twice weekly, with eastbound flights to Stockholm on Wednesday and Saturday, and westbound flights from Stockholm on Thursday and Sunday.
From Toronto, the flight should last around seven and a half hours, while the flight from Stockholm is set at just under eight and a half hours.
The flight times are as follows:
- AC902 Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Stockholm (ARN), departing 8:30pm and arriving 10:05am the next day
- AC903 Stockholm (ARN) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ), departing 12:15pm and arriving 2:35pm
The route will also be served by Air Canada’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The three-class aircraft offers Signature Class, premium economy, and economy cabins.
The flights are already loaded and bookable through Air Canada’s sales channels, including the Air Canada website and the Aeroplan search engine.
Air Canada Increases Capacity to Copenhagen
Air Canada also operates flights from Montreal (YUL) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Copenhagen.
The Montreal service debuted in 2023, while the Toronto service began in 2010.
As of 2024, the airline will be increasing its capacity on both routes.
From May 1–October 31, 2024, Air Canada will operate daily flights to Copenhagen from Toronto (up from five-times weekly), and it will continue to fly the route year-round.
It will begin its seasonal service from Montreal to Copenhagen earlier on May 2, 2024, and will operate up to five weekly flights as of June 2024.
Booking Air Canada’s New Stockholm Flights
The new route announcements to Stockholm come in the wake of the recent development of Scandinavian Airlines’s (SAS) looming departure from Star Alliance. SkyTeam-member Air France KLM is acquiring a 19.99% stake in SAS through bankruptcy restructuring, and as part of the deal, SAS will exit Star Alliance and join SkyTeam.
SAS operates flights from Copenhagen to Toronto, and also has a route between Stockholm and Toronto.
When it comes to booking the routes with Aeroplan points, we’d first consult the Aeroplan Flight Reward Chart.
Both routes fall just under 4,000 miles, which places them in the first distance band on the “Between North America and Atlantic zones” chart.
A good deal on these routes would be around 35,000 points in economy, 50,000 points in premium economy, and 60,000 points in business class. If you look around, you should be able to find these prices, including in business class.
However, Air Canada flights on Aeroplan are subject to dynamic pricing, so you may also see higher costs in all classes of service.
If you encounter high award prices with dynamic pricing, consider looking for connecting flights with partner airlines.
Furthermore, if you have have any tier of Aeroplan Elite Status and therefore access to eUpgrade credits, you can check for eUpgrade space on the routes. At first glance, there appears to be eUpgrade availability on quite a few dates on these routes.
If you have eUpgrade credits valid through 2024, you can snag the eUpgrade availability, including on connections from other parts of Canada.
For example, flying from Vancouver to Stockholm via Toronto might command around 120,000 points, when booked directly into business class.
However, with the “Latitude Attitude”, you can get the same seats for less, perhaps in the range of 81,000 Aeroplan points.
