United Debuts Polaris 2.0 Business Class on Singapore–San Francisco Route

United Airlines is about to roll out its next-generation business class product on one of its marquee long-haul routes. Starting April 22, 2026, the airline’s new Polaris 2.0 suites will debut on the San Francisco (SFO)–Singapore (SIN) route, marking the first time the upgraded product enters commercial service.
The timing is particularly interesting for Canadians, given the upcoming launch of the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard — which could open the door to cardholder-exclusive saver awards on this very route.
What’s New with Polaris 2.0
The upgraded Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners feature a dramatically reconfigured cabin, with just 222 seats compared to the current 257-seat layout. The business class cabin now holds 64 Polaris seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, up from the previous 48.

The biggest change is that every seat now comes with closing privacy doors — a first for United’s business class. Other notable upgrades include 4K 19-inch entertainment screens, wireless charging pads, USB-C outlets, Bluetooth audio pairing, and complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi across all cabins.
The rear cabin features an interesting twist: outward-facing centre seats that can be configured as a double-bed setup for couples travelling together.
Studio Suites: A Step Above
The first eight seats in the cabin are designated as Studio Suites, which are 25% larger than the standard Polaris suites.
These premium seats come with 27-inch 4K OLED screens, an ottoman with a seatbelt for companion dining, and an exclusive Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche paired with Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Champagne.
Studio Suites are expected to carry a premium of approximately US$499–$600 above the standard business class fare.
The Canadian Angle: MileagePlus Comes to Canada
With the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard launching in Canada this spring, Canadians will soon have a dedicated card for earning United MileagePlus miles directly.

Cardholders will earn accelerated miles on United and Star Alliance flights, plus access to the Neo Rewards network of over 10,000 partners across Canada.
One key perk to watch for: MileagePlus cardholders historically get access to exclusive saver award availability on United-operated flights, which could make booking Polaris 2.0 on this route significantly more attainable with miles.
It’s worth noting that the waitlist bonus of 5,000 extra miles closes on March 25, 2026, so you’ll want to register soon if you haven’t already.
Booking with Points
There are a few ways to position yourself for this route using points:
- United MileagePlus: Dynamic pricing applies, but cardholder-exclusive saver fares could offer a meaningful discount. The upcoming Neo card gives Canadians a direct earning path for the first time.
- Aeroplan: United is a Star Alliance partner, so flights are technically bookable with Aeroplan points. That said, United has significantly restricted business class award availability to partner programs in recent years, making saver-level redemptions on routes like this quite rare.
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer: United-operated flights are also bookable through KrisFlyer at approximately 131,000 miles one-way in business class on this route.
If you’re set on using Aeroplan points to reach Singapore, Air Canada’s own Vancouver–Singapore route may be a more reliable option for finding award availability. You could also consider building in an Aeroplan stopover in San Francisco as part of a broader itinerary.
Conclusion
United’s Polaris 2.0 is a serious step up for the airline’s long-haul business class. Privacy doors, massive screens, Starlink Wi-Fi, and caviar service bring it much closer to the premium products offered by the likes of Singapore Airlines.
The inaugural flight departs San Francisco on April 22, 2026, with London (LHR) service following on April 30. United plans to retrofit 30 Boeing 787-9s by the end of 2027, with 81 additional aircraft on order.
For Canadians, the new MileagePlus Neo card is the most direct path to earning miles for this route. If you’ve been eyeing a trip to Singapore, this is one to keep on your radar.
