Porter Airlines is set to strengthen travel between Canada and the United States with a major new addition. Starting May 1, 2025, the airline will launch daily flights connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). This route builds on Porter’s strong presence in the New York metropolitan area while offering frequent flyers more comfort, convenience, and connectivity.

A New Home at LaGuardia Terminal B

Porter’s LaGuardia operations will be based at the newly revamped Terminal B, which recently underwent a $5.1 billion USD transformation. The state-of-the-art terminal boasts modern facilities, spacious waiting areas, upgraded security checkpoints, and an array of dining and shopping options. For frequent flyers, this means a more seamless and enjoyable airport experience from the moment they arrive.

The new route will operate three times daily on weekdays, with slightly reduced service on weekends. The flight schedule is designed for flexibility, catering to both business and leisure travellers:

All flights will be operated with Porter’s Embraer E195-E2 jets, a next-generation aircraft offering a 2-2 seating configuration—meaning no dreaded middle seats. Passengers can enjoy free, fast WiFi, premium snacks, and complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, elevating the onboard experience to new heights.

Connectivity Across Canada and Beyond

This new service opens up a wealth of possibilities for travellers. Porter’s partnership with JetBlue at LaGuardia provides seamless access to destinations across the southern United States, making it easier than ever to escape to sunny locales. For U.S. travellers bound for Canada, Toronto Pearson offers convenient connections to Porter’s extensive domestic network, including cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and more.

Porter Airlines has served the New York metropolitan area for over 15 years, starting with its operations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). This LaGuardia expansion complements its existing Newark services, which now include routes from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). Combined, Porter will offer up to 15 daily round-trip flights to the New York area, solidifying its position as a major player in the Canada-U.S. air travel market.

A Growing Fleet and Premium Offerings

Porter’s fleet continues to expand, featuring 43 Embraer E195-E2 jets and 29 De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 turboprops. The E195-E2 aircraft, with an average age of just 1.2 years, is recognized for its fuel efficiency and passenger-friendly design. Travellers can choose between two fare types:

PorterReserve: Includes perks like extra legroom, meals, two checked bags, and no change fees.

PorterClassic: Offers competitive base fares with customizable add-ons for a tailored travel experience.

There are no middle seats on Porter flights

Andrew Pierce, Porter’s vice president of network planning and reporting, emphasized the strategic importance of this new route.

“Over 15 years, we’ve established a robust passenger base between Canada and New York. Adding LaGuardia creates new possibilities for current customers while attracting new travellers in this crucial Canada-U.S. corridor,”

Pierce said.

Why It Matters for Miles & Points Enthusiasts

For frequent flyers, this new route is a win-win. Porter passengers can earn points on Porter’s loyalty program or Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

Until now, what stopped me from booking Porter Airlines, despite its excellent on-time flight performance, was the lack of mileage earning options. However, with the recent addition of earning valuable Alaska miles, there’s now more incentive to consider Porter Airlines as a viable option alongside Air Canada.

Travellers departing from LaGuardia’s Terminal B will also have access to premium lounges like the American Express Centurion Lounge and Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, further elevating the overall travel experience.

Conclusion

Porter Airlines’ expansion into LaGuardia marks a significant milestone in its U.S. operations, providing frequent flyers with more options, comfort, and connectivity.

Whether you’re a business traveller looking for a seamless commute or a leisure traveller planning your next adventure, Porter’s new Toronto-LaGuardia route is a compelling addition to the airline’s growing network.

With premium service onboard and modern airport amenities, this route promises to set a new standard for short-haul international travel.
