The companion voucher from the MBNA Alaska Airlines MasterCard allows a second passenger to travel on the same itinerary for a US$99 base fare when booking a wholly Alaska Airlines-operated itinerary. You'll want to deploy it on otherwise expensive fares in order to maximize its value.
One of the perks of the MBNA Alaska Airlines MasterCard is the US$99 companion fare, which you can use when two passengers are travelling together to lower the second passenger’s base fare to a mere US$99. As you can imagine, this can be quite lucrative when booking certain fares within Alaska’s route network that would otherwise be very expensive, such as flights to Hawaii, Alaska, or Central America.
Once the companion fare has posted to your Alaska Mileage Plan account (should be soon after the first statement), you can find it under “Discount and companion fare codes” in your dashboard.
Grab that discount code and use it when searching for flights:
If there are valid flights available, you’ll see a small symbol in the search results indicating that the companion fare has been applied.
You’ll want to think about how you can maximize your MBNA companion fare. First of all, it can only be used on trips that are wholly on Alaska Airlines-operated flights, not on any of Alaska’s partners.
So consider how many such trips you’ll be taking as two passengers travelling together over the next year or so, and among those trips, using your companion fare on the most expensive one will provide you the best value.
