Video: How to Earn 1,000,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points

Marriott Bonvoy is the world’s largest hotel loyalty program, and is also the most easily accessible program from a Canadian perspective.

In this video, we’ll summarize all of the opportunities to rack up Marriott Bonvoy points, showing you how to achieve a balance of 1,000,000 Bonvoy points as a household with a well-thought-out strategy among Canadian and US credit cards.

But we’ll also ask the question: where does the value really lie in Marriott Bonvoy points these days, given a spate of recent devaluations and a trend towards even more to come in the post-pandemic era?

In particular, with the American Express Cobalt Card changing soon and the optimality of Bonvoy points transfers being called into question, under what circumstances does it still make sense to build up your Bonvoy balance?

I got a little too excited when I saw the headline for this post. I had hoped to try this strategy but neither myself nor my spouse are business owners so we wouldn’t be eligible. Great opportunity for business owners though.

You can still qualify for the cards as a sole proprietorship, which is a form of business in which you don’t need any business registration.

I’d like to know the strategy of accumulating Bonvoy points once you have all Canadian and US cards. Looks to me like retaining cards and maximizing anniversary nights. But how then to get points to stay at high category properties.

Retaining the cards would help with anniversary nights at mid-tier properties and elite status (especially the two US ones). From there, it’s all about MR transfers, including Cobalt and its associated grocery store/gift card strategies. If buying points on sale makes sense for an expensive property, that too.
