Video: Aeroplan & Virgin Australia + My Aeroplan Predictions for 2021

Last week, Aeroplan and Virgin Australia announced a new partnership starting January 19, 2021, allowing Aeroplan members to redeem points on Virgin Australia and opening up many more travel options for the Oceania region once borders reopen.

That isn’t all that Aeroplan will be up to this year: the program has promised further exciting changes in all aspects of earning and redeeming throughout 2021.

In this video, we discuss the exciting new Virgin Australia partnership and the new redemption options, and then I’ll be putting out a few daring predictions as to which partnerships (both airlines and non-airlines) Aeroplan will offer up next.

Let’s see how many I get right and how many I get wrong!

    Hey Ricky,

I’m not sure if you’ve previously mentioned this, but what happened to the Aeroplan partnership with amazon? I collected a nice bucket of points in 2018/19 because of this.

This was announced in March 2020: “Due to the current extraordinary circumstances, as of March 26, 2020, Amazon.ca is not available through the Aeroplan eStore until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

I think Amazon cut affiliate payouts to virtually all their partners at the start of the pandemic, which made it unsustainable to offer Aeroplan points for shopping at Amazon. I’d expect the partnership to start back up when things return to normal.

Do you feel Aeroplan could have Emirates as a partner?

With the alignment with Etihad, alas, I don’t think Emirates is a realistic option.
